2. Discrimination against Hispanics in the workplace According to title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 it is illegal to discriminate against individuals on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, or disability.

3. According to Title VII, an employer may not: “Fail or refuse to hire or to discharge any individual, or otherwise to discriminate against any individual with respect to his compensation, terms, conditions, or privileges of employment. “Limit, segregate, or classify his employees or applicants for employment in any way which would deprive or tend to deprive any individual of employment opportunities. “Discriminate against any individual because of such factors, or employment in, any program established to provide apprenticeship or other training"

4. Almost all Hispanics suffer discrimination from pay, training, promotional opportunities, hiring, and firing in their work place

5. The most common incidents of discrimination or unfair treatment: Not receiving credit for one’s work (53 percent) Co-workers were talking behind their backs (41 percent) Did not receive a raise or bonus (38 percent) Not having concerns addressed or taken seriously (37 percent) Feeling ideas or input are generally ignored (34 percent) Being overlooked for a promotion (32 percent)

6. A. Pay Differences The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that in 2011, Asians led the median usual weekly earnings at $866 dollars weekly, followed by Whites at $ 755, Blacks $ 615, and Hispanics $ 549.

7. B. Ethic Discrimination: “Glass Ceiling” An unofficially acknowledged barrier to advancement in a profession, especially affecting women and members of minorities.

8. C. Discriminatory Practices: Examples of discrimination under the laws include: Harassment: Jokes, slurs, epithets or name-calling, physical assaults or threats, intimidation, ridicule or mockery, insults or put-downs Employment decisions based on stereotypes Can be positive or negative Creation of hostile environment

9. WHAT CAN WE DO TO PREVENT DISCIMINATION FROM HAPPENING??

10. A minority worker subjected to discrimination should document every incident  Follow up with a report to the supervisor.  File a discrimination charge by mail or in person at an EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission office).

11. EXAMPLES OF LAWSUITS Target: Three former employees of the Target store chain are suing the retailer for alleged illegal discrimination

13. EXAMPLES OF LAWSUITS COCA-COLA: The lawsuit charges that the 16 plaintiffs “have suffered from the worst of its ills in terms of biased work assignments and allotment of hours, unfair discipline and retaliation, and a caustic work environment

14. Coca-Cola issued a statement saying, “ Where discrimination is alleged, we conduct a thorough investigation”
