A Mission Driven CHURCH

Intro ‘A mission statement defines what an organization is, why it exists, its reason for being. At a minimum, your mission statement should define who your primary customers are, identify the products and services you produce, and describe the geographical location in which you operate. It's more important to communicate the mission statement to employees than to customers. Your mission statement doesn't have to be clever or catchy--just accurate.’

Vision vs Mission Vision statements are future based and are meant to inspire and give direction to people. A Mission statement: Defines the present state or purpose of an organization; WHAT it does; WHO it does it for; and HOW it does what it does.

Starbucks Vision To inspire and nurture the human spirit – one person, one cup and one neighbourhood at a time. Mission 1.Creating a culture of warmth and belonging, where everyone is welcome. 2.Acting with courage, challenging the status quo and finding new ways to grow our company and each other. 3.Being present, connecting with transparency, dignity and respect. 4.Delivering our very best in all we do, holding ourselves accountable for results.

Mission Missiology can be defined as “the cross-cultural communication of the Gospel.” In the Great Commission, the Lord Jesus told us to “go into all the WORLD and preach the good news to ALL creation” (Mark 16:15). That command forms the crux of missiology, as it seeks to understand and explain biblical values for evangelism, such as the role of culture in giving the message, both declaring and demonstrating the message of the gospel as it goes “into all the world.” Mission preceded the Church, hence the title for today if you noticed is A MISSION DRIVEN CHURCH. Not a CHURCH DRIVEN MISSION. We often say that the church has a mission,” according to missional theology a more correct statement would be “the mission has a church.”

Missio Dei Vision The vision or future picture is that all men would be saved and redeemed. Salvation And redemption. All men have sinned and have fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23) Mission statement 1.Luke 4- The Spirit of the Lord [is] upon Me, because He has anointed Me [the Anointed One, the Messiah] to preach the good news (the Gospel) t o the poor ; He has sent Me to announce release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to send forth as delivered those who are oppressed [who are downtrodden, bruised, crushed, and broken down by calamity]. 2.And yet for a time, He set aside power and strength that were rightfully His, so that He could become like us. Because God-in-human-flesh lived His life before men, we can better understand our heavenly Father (Colossians 1:15). 3.Christ came to be man. Only that he assumed he could heal. The mission of Christ was to break down barriers, to encounter people in community and in their culture. To be relatable. Christ sends out. Mission is alive and active, continuously sending out.

Missional Church While the church has specialists called missiologists, all thoughtful Christians engage the world in a missiological way. All followers of Christ have been entrusted with the message of the gospel (2 Tim 1:14) and given the mission to make disciples wherever they go (Matt 28:19-20, Mark 16:14-18, Luke 24:44-49, John 20:19-23, and Acts 1:4-8). The gospel transforms people, and thus transforms how those people live in the world.

Missional Church The Church is sent by Jesus Christ (John 17:18; 20:21, Luke 9:2; Matthew 28: 19–20; Acts 1:8) The Church is sent with the Cross (1 Corinthians 1:18, Ephesians 2:16, Colossians 2:14, 1 Peter 2:24, 2 Corinthians 5:17–24) The Church is sent in Community (Acts 2:42–47; 5:42; John 13:34–35; 1 John 3:16–17) The Church is sent to every Culture (John 1:14; Matthew 20:28; Acts 17:22–34; Luke 5:29) The Church is sent for the King and His Kingdom (Matthew 10:7; 25:34; Luke 4:43; Revelation 11:15–17; Jeremiah 10:7; John 18:36)

A Mission Driven Church If a church cannot define it's "reason for existing (Mission) or "where it is going" (Vision), how can it align people, purpose, or identity towards a successful future? I believe it is important as church leaders to have a vision for the church. But moreover, have a mission statement. How, what where etc. The mission statement keeps you focused as you press on towards the vision. In the contemporary culture it is important of us to learn to be contextual. Not that we become contextualised, but we recognise the contemporary shift. What worked 50 years ago will not work now. The gospel has not changed and will never change. However, the methods and delivery can.
