5
Vehicle / trailer with low ground clearance Vehicle / trailer with long overhang
6
Trailer will strike the ramp toes before the tires start to roll up
7
With Approach Shoring trailer will clear the ramp toes
9
Tall Vehicle / trailer with long overhang or “projection”
10
Vehicle / trailer with strike the ceiling of the aircraft cargo compartment

Vehicle / trailer with long wheel base and low ground clearance
13
USTRANSCOM requires each sortie (or flight) to carry the shoring needed to onload and offload the aircraft.
14
Relying on only one set of shoring at the departure airfield, and one set at the arrival airfield, can lead to mission failure.
15
Inflight emergencies, aircraft maintenance issues, and weather, can cause flights to divert to secondary airfields, with no capability to offload.
16
In the past approach shoring was made of lumber, 2 x 12’s and plywood
17
Set-up and break-down time could run into days
18
Once the cargo is loaded into the aircraft the shoring then has to be loaded into the aircraft. Lumber is heavy and takes up space. The weight of the lumber alone can negatively effect the mission (e.g. - short field capability, weight of fuel vs. weight of cargo effects range of flight )
19
In 2012 the US Navy deployed SH-60’s to the AOR. On redeployment the entire C-17 and cargo was quarantined by US Agriculture for 7 days, due to insect infestation in the wooden shoring.
24
Replaces wooden shoring (saves trees) Lighter than wooden shoring (saves fuel) Quicker setup than wooden shoring (saves time) Longer lifespan than wooden shoring (saves money)
25
Will not attract wood boring insects Stacks into a smaller space on aircraft Modular design = Unlimited Configurations (Like an Erector Set) Choice of Axle Weight Ratings and Widths 13K / 24” wide 20K / 30” wide 26K / 36” wide (50K to come)
26
Choice of top surface DAMAS - Rungs for normal tires HelMAS - Pooched Plate for small tires (for helicopters and dollies) Choice of Wedge/Leadup shapes (Normal of Knife Edge) Numerous Stand Heights (4 inches to 50 inches)
27
The DAMAS/HelMAS is the first aluminum shoring system certified by the A IR T RANSPORT T EST L OAD A GENCY (ATTLA) for use on: C-130 C-17 C-5
31
Pin 39.5 St - ¾” x 39.5” Steel Rod (to connect ramps to stands) Hitch Pin ¾” - # 158185 ¾” x 5 ¼” Steel Pin (to adjust height of stands) Hitch Pin Clip - # 45285 (retaining clip to secure both the rod and pin above)
32
Using the C-130 Truck Loading Ramps (limited application)
34
Various applications using the pad and wedge placed above the C-130 ramp.
35
C-130 “Over-the-ramp” method
36
“2-leg” DAMAS placed over the C-17 cargo ramp
37
“3-leg” DAMAS placed over the C-17 cargo ramp (with 54” Lead Up Ramp)
38
“5-leg / 2up3down” DAMAS placed over the C-17 cargo ramp for NORE-DECON
40
“4-leg / 2up2down” DAMAS placed over the C-5 cargo ramp for US Navy Sea Ark
41
US Navy Sea Ark deploying to GWOT
42
“2-leg” DAMAS placed under C-17 aircraft cargo ramp (pedestal shoring required)
43
“4-leg” DAMAS placed under C-17 aircraft cargo ramp (pedestal shoring required)
44
HelMAS placed above the C-5 cargo ramp for US Army UH-60 Blackhawk
45
HelMAS placed above the C-5 cargo ramp for US Army CH-47 Chinook
46
HelMAS placed above the C-17 cargo ramp for Afghan MH-6 Little Bird
48
The 20K 30”wide DAMAS is currently in use by all CST’s, HRF’s, CERFP’s. However the purchase was for only half of the required sets. It also included some unneeded components.
49
Careful thought should used when determining which DAMAS components should be purchased We don’t want to purchase unneeded parts, or parts that won’t meet the mission Help is available to make the right decision... Call MilAirX
50
CAUTION There are other aluminum approach shoring systems on the market Cheaply made knockoffs that have failed – resulting in damage to equipment WARNING
51
Wobbly stands Poor Design Structurally faulty Shoddy workmanship Cheap ramps sold at a premium price
52
Don’t get stuck with an inferior ramp system that may result in aircraft damage, injuries to personnel, or death DAMAS/HelMAS systems are rated at a two-to-one safety margin (meaning the breaking strength is twice the rated strength) MilAirX is the right choice !!
