ASTRA 2016-2017 Preliminaries

WHAT IS ASTRA? A – ability We all have special talents. We just need a time and opportunity to share those special abilities with others to. S – service Meeting a need in the community. To serve those who are less fortunate in the community. T – training Developing leadership ability and potential. Leadership is NOT an inherent skill. It is a learned and cultivated behavior. Your service in ASTRA will help you develop leadership skills. R – responsibility Accepting obligations and knowing the satisfaction of seeing a project through to its end. Owning up to mistakes and errors, then learning from them. Changing negative behaviors through experience. A – achievement Experiencing success; knowing that as a group we can accomplish more than any one person. To see the fruits of labor and be satisfied with a job well done.

REQUIREMENTS Dues – 10$ GPA – 2.0 Mrs. Crawford will be checking once I get the initial roster Participation – must participate in two activities per quarter. Donations of items may be counted as service hours, but DO NOT REPLACE your obligation to spend time at activities. Hours – you must keep track of your hours through the service forms found in Guidance. There will be an officer who will maintain an excel form to track club members’ hours, but YOU must be responsible to keep track of your own hours. T-shirts – have been designed Black with the ASTRA logo in gold. Cost of the shirt is included in the dues

UP-COMING EVENTS ASTRA Summit – attendance is mandatory. Free food, introduction into ASTRA, coronation of officers, mix and mingle with the club from Lake Weir High School. September 22, 2016 6-9 pm Wyomina Baptist Church First Activity week – Sept. 12-16 ASTRA meets on C Activity Day in the media Center Homecoming – First week of October. Skits for Kats Kapers – think of ideas and work up a five or six minute skit.

OFFICERS Hailey Priddle is your President. Austin Bouwens is your Vice-President. If you have any questions about the nature of the club, these are the people to ask. ASTRA officers have a great deal of responsibility. There must be at least three officers at EVERY off campus Service Activity. One of those must be a historian (description to follow). Election/appointment of officers will take place at the first ASTRA meeting on Sept 12.

OFFICERS CONT. The following Offices are open: SECRETARY – maintains the website, ASTRA Calendar, keeps minutes of the meetings TREASURER – maintains records of dues, donations. Scouts stores for prices for merchandise for club reimbursement. BOOKKEEPER – maintains records of service hours and attendance at meetings and activities. COMMUNICATIONS – communicates with club members and various community agencies to determine service need. Will be speaking to adult professionals about official club business. This is a unique opportunity to network and gain community knowledge and build a reputation for professionalism and responsibility. HISTORIAN 1 - keeps photographic/written journal of service activities, maintains the ASTRA Scrapbook. HISTORIAN 2 - keeps photographic/written journal of service activities, markets the club through posters, collages, and internet galleries.
