Integers and Rational Numbers By: Nicholas Bailey 2 nd period 5/14/12
2
Real numbers- Any rational or irrational number Rational numbers- Integers or fractions Integers- A whole number; a number that is not a fraction Whole numbers- A number without fractions; an integer Natural numbers- The positive integers (whole numbers) 1, 2, 3, etc., Irrational numbers- A number/decimal that does not end
3
Absolute value is the space a number is away from 0. To Find absolute value: Start at zero, and move either left or right. How ever many spaces you go, that’s the absolute value
4
Adding integers: Same signs: add EX. -4+-4=-8 Different signs: subtract and keep the sign of bigger number EX. -4+5=1 EX. -4+4=0 Subtracting integers Keep Change Change: Keep the first integer, Change the sign to opposite, Change the second integer to opposite and follow + rules EX. -4-(-4)>-4+4=0 EX. -4-1>-4+(-1)=-5 EX. -4-(-8)>-4+8=4
5
Multiplying and Dividing integers: If there are different signs it is negative If the signs are the same it is positive This works for both operations

A rational number is a fraction Adding Fractions There are 3 Simple Steps to add fractions: Step 1: Make sure the bottom numbers (the denominators) are the sameStep 2: Add the top numbers (the numerators), put the answer over the denominator.Step 3: Simplify the fraction (if needed). Subtracting Fractions You might like to read Adding Fractions first. There are 3 simple steps to subtract fractions Step 1. Make sure the bottom numbers (the denominators) are the same Step 2. Subtract the top numbers (the numerators). Put the answer over the same denominator.Step 3. Simplify the fraction.

Multiplying Fractions Multiply the tops, multiply the bottoms. There are 3 simple steps to multiply fractions 1. Multiply the top numbers (the numerators). 2. Multiply the bottom numbers (the denominators). 3. Simplify the fraction if needed.Simplify Dividing Fractions Turn the second fraction upside down, then multiply. There are 3 Simple Steps to Divide Fractions: Step 1. Turn the second fraction (the one you want to divide by) upside-down (this is now a reciprocal).Step 2. Multiply the first fraction by that reciprocal Step 3. Simplify the fraction (if needed) reciprocalMultiplySimplify
