1 1 NASA’s First Google+ Hangout in Spanish Earth E/PO Forum & NASA Science4Girls March 28, 2013 The Earth E/PO Forum, led by IGES, organized NASA’s First G+ Hangout in Spanish to: increase engagement with the Spanish-speaking public; highlight the contribution of women in NASA as part of National Women’s History Month 2013, themed Women Inspiring Innovation through Imagination: Celebrating Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics; highlight the contribution of Hispanics/Latinos in NASA; expand the reach of NASA’s social media platforms in Spanish; and engage library patrons from predominantly Spanish-speaking communities, particularly girls and their families. Participants Talent: Erika Podest, NASA JPL & Michela Muñoz Fernández, NASA JPL Participant: María José Viñas, NASA GSFC Moderator: Laura Delgado López, Earth E/PO Forum/ IGES Participant: Highgrove Library, Riverside, Calif. Participant: Old Town Newhall Library, Santa Clarita, Calif. Media Coverage 30+ Web News Sources covered the event, including Yahoo Noticias España, Prensa (Panama’s main newspaper), Fox News Latino & Earth Sky en Español. Moderator and talent participated in TV and radio interviews with CNN en Español, Cadena Ser (Spain), Actualidad Radio (Miami, Fl.), and El Punto News (Palm Beach, Fl.) NASA sources promoting the event: Women@NASA, Ciencia@NASA, This Week@NASA, Press release 13-083 Reach 1,095 followers on NASA en Español G+ page (created 18 March); 1,225 people “went” to the Hangout, 50+ questions submitted 1,913 new Twitter followers on @NASA_Es during promotional period 21-29 March (52,027 total followers as of 4 April) 2,331 views of archived video on YouTube (as of 3 April) Exposure of ~ 78K from 15 tweets sent out via @NASA_ES, re-tweeted a combined 419 times and marked as favorites 166 times Event reached an international audience: US, Mexico, Spain, Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Colombia, Argentina and more.
