Towards ‘Critical Thinking.’ A ‘Creative Workshop’ approach in the classroom. BRONZE-set activity: outcome pre-determined materials are restricted in order achieve a ‘correct’ outcome. Design belongs to the teacher not the child. Low level learning experience=replicating a model Suitable as an introductory task, teaching new skills/new materials Challenge-accommodating the more able/ experienced child…. SILVER- supported activity: child given starting point/framework,to which they add their own ideas child offered a restricted choice of materials to use in their own way child encourage to experiment, adaptation skills. Suitable as a follow-on task, encouraging exploration of own ideas Challenge- encouraging timid/inexperienced children GOLD- open workshop approach: child has complete unrestricted choice of materials, opportunity to explore the materials in their own way, encouraged follow own interests, adapt and extend their creations excellent opportunity for developing critical –thinking Suitable for all confident children, once they have mastered basic skills Challenge- recognising/giving space for creative children to grow…
