LOUISVILLE.EDU Introduction Organization Overview The University of Louisville is becoming a preeminent, metropolitan institution in Louisville, Kentucky. There are 13 colleges and schools. Additionally, U of L enrolls students from 118 of 120 Kentucky counties, all 50 U.S. states, and 116 countries around the world. As part of the 2020 initiative the university has a signature partnership with Jefferson County Public Schools to foster and promote a college going culture. This will be a brief overview of the College of Education and Human Development and the TRiO Talent Search program.

LOUISVILLE.EDU Vision, Values, and Goals of Talent Search Description of Talent Search The University of Louisville Talent Search program’s vision is to build “a college- going culture” and steer students toward such resources as academic enrichment courses, tutoring, career guidance and financial aid. The goals of the program are to contribute to the institution’s (and the state) 2020 plan. The plan has a goal of 55,000 degrees to be obtained by 2020.

Staff socialization happens in passing All staff members are socialized/introduced to campus by Human Resources Office socialization occurs during professional development trips Staff socialization happens on an individual basis.

LOUISVILLE.EDU Roles of members Human Process EASSTalent Search Administrative Leadership has supervisor role and focus on assigned staff Staff members understand their role and primary job function Most staff work alone vs. working together The program director oversees all programs and day-to-day operations that occur. Staff members understand their role and job description. Teamwork is discussed and suggested, but most staff work alone.

LOUISVILLE.EDU Office Norms Human Process EASSTalent Search Individualistic work environment but collegiality exist Performance is important Dress down on Fridays Monthly birthday celebrations Lunch provided during fall registration The office is consistently inconsistent as it relates to norms. Performance is important and often provides positive conversation outside the department. Norms are often based on emotions.

LOUISVILLE.EDU Problem Solving Human Process EASSTalent Search Problem solving occurs individually and in team settings Office culture supports problem solving though collaboration Problem solving only occurs when someone is being reprimanded. The office survives from reactionary attitudes versus being proactive.

Staff communicates via email and during staff meetings
