What Stays the Same?

The Degree Network System What are the building blocks?  Key features valued by Military Services: —Guaranteed-Transferability —Evaluated credit for military training/experience —Limited Academic Residency  Student Agreements  Graduate Survey

Earning a Degree From a DNS School Student selects home college Home College Home college issues Student Agreement based on full evaluation of prior learning: --courses from other colleges --nationally-recognized exam results --ACE Guide credit recommendations for military training and experience --certification examinations The student completes 25% academic residence (30% for fully online degree) while completing degree Other Colleges Remaining degree requirements on the Student Agreement may be completed at other colleges Courses with SOC DNS Course Category Codes shared by Core Member institutions transfer back to the home college Student seeks prior, official approval from home college to transfer other courses to meet degree requirements Non-traditional Credit Student Agreement is updated with additional, applicable military-related credit and nationally-recognized examination results Home college awards degree Meeting servicemembers needs

Student Agreement Components College Information Student Information Degree Requirements Credit Hours Awarded Guaranteed Transferability

Graduate Report

Courses “tentatively” assigned Category Codes based on course content New course not added to Category Code or rejecting college’s course removed from Category Code General Education, major, and major- related courses reviewed Peer review: circulation process not 100% approved 100% approved Course is entered into T-Tables if degree meets 40% standard SOC DNS Circulation Process

SOC Degree Network System Credit Evaluation Supplement  Purpose: academic placement guidelines for optimizing application of non-traditional credit toward degree requirements  Credit mapping of ACE credit recommendations for military training & occupational specialty experience  CLEP/DSST/ Excelsior UExcel ® Exams  CCAF Courses

What Has Changed?  Student access to additional programs  Focus on Guaranteed-Transfer Networks  Review of degrees with greater emphasis on emerging career fields  New membership process  Identify articulation agreements between SOC DNS-2 and DNS-4 institutions

DNS Membership Review  Two tiered-assessment: –Membership at the institution level –Academic fit of degree offerings within existing and developing Guaranteed Transfer Networks  Member institutions advised of their status December 2015/January 2016  System that reflects the needs of the Services
