6 3 Successful implementation of college- and career-ready standards and accompanying assessments that provide actionable data and information Creation of accountability systems that provide actionable data and information Restructuring of comprehensive and coherent education workforce systems that focus on the effectiveness of the adults with respect to student outcomes and that provide actionable data and information Transforming current data systems into information systems that can inform teaching and learning, meet reporting needs, and provide actionable data and information Providing diverse high-quality opportunities and options that lead to graduation with college- and career-readiness Supporting chiefs as they address, individually and collectively, emerging issues based on actionable data and information States’ Strategic Planning Goals for 2011-2014

7 4 States support comprehensive information systems that address the states’ individual and collective data needs: Inform teaching and learning (inform what should happen next for each learner) Automate all federal reporting (in the aggregate from record- level source data) Support the newly proposed accountability principles (state- based reporting) Share data with constituencies and communities (automate SchoolDataDirect and SchoolMatters, others) States’ Goals for Comprehensive Information Systems

27 24 Implementing the Blue Box Steps to Implement CEDS 2.0 and the Blue Box: 1.Sign a statement of adoption and intent to implement. 2.Collect the appropriate elements from districts in the state. 3.Map state’s data elements to the CEDS 2.0 data model. 4.Develop the “upper” part of the ETL (extract and convert to CEDS 2.0). 5.Implement the “lower” part of the ETL (convert to XML version). 6.Load and store a physical copy of the XML version into the Blue Box. 7.As the state’s SLDS and other datasets evolve and migrate, convert those systems to get the data from districts in XML. Note 1:Completion of Step 4 indicates complete implementation of CEDS 2.0. Note 2:Completion of Step 6 indicates complete implementation of the Blue Box.
