APRIL 20, 2009 Begin Writing About “Me” Unit

WE will begin a new unit- WRITING ABOUT ME! Everyday you will be given a topic to write about yourself. You will make a typed booklet all about yourself. There will be three themes and writings for each one.

THEME 1------ 5 assignments BIOGRAPHY INFORMATION Birth- 4 years 5 years – 14 years (elem., Middle) 15 years- now! (high school) may include family, friends, school,

Writing Assignment 2 Theme 1 Who was your favorite teacher in elementary school? Who was/were your best friend/s in elementary school? What is your fondest memory from elementary school? (50- 100 words) illustrate this one

Theme 1- assignment 3 List your favorite middle school teachers. List the events/activities that you hated most. Write a 50-100 word paragraph about the worst thing you had to endure/experience during your middle school years.

Theme 1 assignment 4 You finally made it to high school! What did your middle school do to help with your transition? What did your high school do to help? What helped you make the transition? DO YOU LIKE BEING IN HIGH SCHOOL? Why or why not?!!

Theme 1 Assignment 5 Write a narrative poem about your childhood. Include Alliteration Include personification Include consistent feet- (same number of syllables per line) at least 12 lines

THEME 2--- five assignments Regrets – failures- what I learned from them How has your past shaped your future? This is a project- due May 20 th - That is the Wednesday before finals!

Theme 2 assignment 1 List 5 things you regret/failed. Ex. Prayer was taken out of school 911 happened 911 happened Dating that “guy” /”girl” Dating that “guy” /”girl” A decision A decision Write an essay about two of them. One intro. Paragraph, two body paragraphs.

Theme 2 Assignment 2 Many things in our lives shape who we are. Create a poem (concrete poem) that depicts one or two things from your lifetime that has shaped who you are.

Theme 2 Assignment 3 During your elementary school years (in and out of school) you had the opportunity to participate in extra activities. Name some of those activities. Write a 50-100 word paragraph about one that stands out most.

Theme 2 Assignment 4 There are many songs and many genres. Name some of your favorites. Select one or two and tell in paragraph form why you selected these songs as your favorites. Write the chorus or lyrics to one verse.

Theme 2 Assignment 5 Think about your academic past. Was it always easy for you to make good grades in elementary school? What about middle school?..And then high school? Write an essay (3-5 paragraphs) about your academic success and failure. Discuss at least one of each in your essay. End this essay with your academic goal.

THEME 3---- five assignments FUTURE- hopes, dreams, desires- worries– goals? What is in your future? How do you see the new view points of Americans changing or directing your personal thinking? Do you see your own morals changing with current world views? How about that economy?

Theme 3 Assignment 1 Americans are becoming addicted to many things. Name some of those things. Write your thoughts (50-100 words) about Americans’ addictions.

Theme 3 Assignment 2 Violence is a part of our world. Locate three examples of violence in the newspaper, media, or magazines. Copy and paste or glue the articles on your paper. Write your feelings about violence and “your world.”

Theme 3 Assignment 3 American is the land of plenty. What about “plenty” is wrong in America? Do you see ways that we are wasting our own resources and money? Explain in a paragraph or a poem.

Theme 3 Assignment 4 Create a collage of things/words and pictures that are related to you and your personality. Use clip art, magazines, photos,… Fill the page- 8x10

Theme 3 Assignment 5 Write a one page (75-125 words) report about what you plan to become after you graduate. Include your hopes, dreams plans, and educational needs. Research the salary and job description and include this.

GUIDELINES 1. MUST HAVE ALL 15 PAGES 2. MUST BE TYPED OR NEATLY HAND WRITTEN. 3. MUST BE DOUBLED- SPACED IN 12 FONT- NO fancy fonts- please. 4. must have a decorated front page/cover. 5. must be in a folder with brads. 6. must have a table of contents. 7. must have at least 10 illustrated pages. (color, pictures, border, …)
