SESP is found at: https://ats.nycboe.net/sec/SESP You will find the link on the same screen where you access all SEC applications - https://ats.nycboe.net/ The Special Education Student Projection (SESP) is a tool that will be used by the Office of Student Enrollment to inform the special education class allocations for the coming school year. This tool is an opportunity for schools to request the classes needed to serve all of their current students who are expected to need Special Class or CTT services in the coming school year. 4. Select a school by clicking on this drop-down menu. Each Principal only has access to his/her school. Network leaders have access to the schools in their respective networks. Administrators for Special Education (ASEs) at the Integrated Service Centers (ISC) have access to all schools served by their particular ISC. SESP – Selecting your school

5. This year data is being supplied to allow Principals to view the current status of their schools relative to the rest of the district. For additional details about the data, please refer to the FAQ on the SESP main screen. Initial Referral Data: These data are the percentage of general education students in grades K-8 who were referred for evaluation for special education in the 2007-08 school year. Transfer Data: These data are the number of students who were transferred out of the school due to a change in recommendation during the 2007-08 school year. Recommendation Trends: These data are ALL recommendations that were made at the school level during the 2007-08 school year (including same recommendations). SESP – New comparative data Special Education Enrollment Percentage: These data are the percentage of the students receiving special education services in your school, and in the district overall. Data are as of 12/1/08.

6. The purpose of SESP is to review all of your students currently receiving service, or referred for evaluation, and make a projection of what the students’ needs will be in the coming school year. You will see a link to each of your special education classes, SETSS and Related Services Only students as well as Open Initial Referrals. Click on a class, and a new screen will open with a list of all of the students in that class. SESP – Editing class list data

7. The class data show all of the current students in the class, the current grade level and service. SESP – Class list data and Student Enrollment projections The information in yellow shows the Student Enrollment projection, which assumes 100% promotion, and all continuing students will be entitled to the same service.

8. On each class page you can make adjustments to the projections for each student’s service and grade for the coming school year. In the last two columns, using the dropdown menus provided – indicate projected changes to service need, or anticipated promotional decisions SESP – Changing the Student Enrollment projections

9. Once you have made your changes, be sure to SAVE your data by clicking “Save Data”. Then click “Go to Class List” to complete this task for all of your groups of students. Don’t forget to SAVE!! After you have saved, go back to the list of classes SESP – Saving class data and moving on to another class list

10. After completing projections for each of your groups of students, it is time to project the classes needed to meet the needs of all of these students. Click the “Class Allocations” button to move on to the class projection screen. 11. The yellow columns show all of the students projected by grade level and service. The changes you have made for each student are reflected here. Project the classes needed to ensure that all students can be served in your school for the coming year. 12. As you enter the class projections – Don’t forget to SAVE!! If you want to go back and review any of your groups of students, click on “Go Back”. SESP – Saving class projections Once you enter your class projections, be sure to SAVE your data by clicking “Save”. You may also go back at any time to review your class lists of students.

13. Are you a barrier free school? If so, use the drop-down to select “yes.” The “Comments” box can be used to provide additional information about specific students, classes or general comments about your school. SESP – Barrier-free designation and additional comments SESP allows Principals to provide additional feedback regarding special education enrollment in their schools.

14. Additional Information, Important Dates and Support Special Education Projections: There are multiple phases of the projections process for special education projections. SESP is the first phase. Student Enrollment will use the SESP information to inform the initial projections. Determinations about new classes, for articulating and new students, will be communicated to schools in advance of the initial projections to the greatest extent possible. Important Dates: SESP is open until January 12, 2009. Initial projections will be available on the Enrollment Projection Website beginning February 23, 2009.
