3 Would You Like to Volunteer? All Volunteers must take an online child safety class and submit to a criminal background check prior to volunteering. Once testing has been completed by the volunteer, and references and background check have been verified and cleared by the Screening Coordinator, you will then be approved to serve at our parish or school. Visit parent portal to begin the process or the parish website to renew your STAND status.parent portalparish website Please note that this process can take up to 3 weeks to process and approve. Last-minute requests will not be processed due to time constraints.

4 Going Green Dedicated to increasing awareness of recycling and other Earth-friendly practices Duties – Varies depending on need Time required – Work at home and school – Younger siblings welcome

5 Helping Hands Works with families in times of need to offer support with meals, rides, and other help as needed. Duties – Varies depending on need Time required – Work primarily from home – Younger siblings welcome Other – Great opportunity for parents with limited time

6 Outreach Provide opportunities for our school to put our faith into action by helping others in need Events – Toy collection to benefit Sykes Toy Project at Northminster Presbyterian Church in first week of October – Coat, sweater, and blanket collection for St. Benedict's Church in Baltimore City during third week of October – Extra Halloween candy collection for SHG thanksgiving service project during first week in November – Adopt a Family project for St. Ann's Church in Baltimore City is our biggest project of the year and takes place between Thanksgiving and early December to provide families with a brighter Christmas – Lenten project is meatless sandwich collection for Our Daily Bread in Baltimore on Ash Wednesday and Fridays of Lent – Flower sale to benefit the Illuminations Project of Catholic Charities during first week of May

7 Outreach Provide opportunities for our school to put our faith into action by helping others in need Duties – Promoting drives, collecting supplies, sorting donations, and driving donations to locations as needed – For Adopt-a-Family, we need 10 – 12 volunteers on delivery day in early December to sort, tag and wrap presents and 6 – 8 drivers to deliver gifts to St. Ann’s Time required – Anywhere from an hour to more depending on involvement – Positions mainly available at school, but some (limited) at home – Younger siblings welcome Other – Main drives take place in October, November, December, and during Lent

8 Parents In Prayer Parents who meet weekly on Friday mornings after drop off to pray the rosary with specific intentions for students, teachers, administrators, parents, and the parish We generally meet between 8:30-9:00 on Friday mornings. We encourage you to come when you are able, with no obligation to come every week. If you aren't able to attend, we encourage you to pray with us from wherever you are at that time! We encourage younger siblings to come. “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” Matthew 18:20

9 Family Engagement Promote the vast array of volunteer opportunities at SHG to ensure the community fully engages and benefits from the many talents of our families Duties – Coordinate Volunteer Fairs with Committee Chairs for Back To School nights and HSA meeting – Email requests for volunteers on behalf of committee chairs – Confirm STAND certification and track volunteers Time required – Many hours at the beginning of the school year and as needed as new volunteers sign up for committees or specific events – Hours are available at home and school – Younger siblings are welcome

10 Hospitality Coordinate all refreshments for school events and provide a welcoming presence to visitors Duties – Order and purchase food and drinks – Set up and clean up of food Time required – Anywhere from a few hours at an event to more if ordering and purchasing refreshments – Hours available at home and school – Younger siblings welcome Other – Approximately 10 events per school year

11 Open House Open House is an important event for our school as it allows potential families to visit and receive information Duties – Provide tours and answer questions during the school Open Houses – Each tour guide will be given a set of guidelines to follow during the tour Time required – Fall Open House on a Saturday in October from 10-noon – Catholic Schools Week (CSW) Open House on Monday of CSW from 9:00 - 10:30 AM – Younger siblings who would not interrupt tour are welcome

12 New Family Welcome Welcome new families to SHG, organize the New Family Orientation and New Family play dates Duties – Provide tours to new students during New Family Orientation – Assist with New Family play dates Time required – Anywhere from one or two hours to more – Hours available primarily at school – Younger siblings welcome Other – Great way to meet new families

13 School Supplies Assist with delivery of school supplies for grades K-3 and run the school store for grades 4-8 Duties – Bag supplies for grades K-3 and deliver to homeroom teachers – Set up, run, and break down school store Time required – One to two hours to bag supplies in late August prior to school starting – Hours to support school store (morning and afternoon on the Friday before school starts) – Hours at school only – Younger siblings welcome

14 Traffic Coordinator Assist with traffic management during school drop off Duties – Direct traffic and help children safely cross to the school entrance Time required – 7:45-8:15 on school mornings – May sign up for recurring commitment or as needed – All hours at school – Not appropriate for younger siblings Other – Perfect before-work volunteer opportunity

15 Uniform Exchange Opportunity to exchange school uniforms that your child has outgrown for the next size they need, and/or purchase gently used uniforms for a reduced price Duties – Check in exchanges, assist shoppers, organize uniforms, and check out purchases Time Required – Uniform exchange events occur on the Friday before school starts in August, plus 1-2 additional times during the year – Volunteer hours available during school hours, after school, and some evenings – Younger siblings are welcomed

16 Book Fair Organize and run the SHG Scholastic Book Fair, which is the biggest fundraiser for the school library each year Duties – Plan, decorate, set up, take down, run the fair and serve as assistants and cashiers during the fair Time Required – Planning begins in early December – Anywhere from an hour or two working the fair to more if involved in planning – Volunteer hours at home and at school – Younger siblings welcome – Held during Catholic Schools Week (usually the 1 st week of February)

17 Cultural Arts Coordinate one to two assemblies per year for the students Duties – Coordinate dates with school administration, negotiate contracts and pricing, fill out paperwork, meet the performers on assembly days Time required – 10-15 hours spread over multiple weeks or months – Mostly work from home

18 Rebate Program Coordinate the Box Tops for Education program to earn money for teachers Duties – Collect, trim, tally, and submit box tops – Coordinate monthly incentive drawing for submissions – Collect wish lists from teachers and coordinate purchases of items with school administration Time required – One to a few hours per month depending on submissions – Hours primarily at home; school drawings at school – Younger siblings welcome

19 Santa’s Workshop Organize the workshop which provides items at a reasonable cost for students to purchase as Christmas gifts Duties – Organize workshop, price items, and oversee the workshop – Assist children with shopping and serve as cashiers during workshop Time required – Planning begins in September – Anywhere from an hour or two during workshop or more if involved in planning – Volunteer hours at home and at school – Younger siblings welcome

20 SCRIP Allows families to earn money off tuition by using pre- purchased gift cards for select vendors and businesses Duties – Enter incoming orders (Mondays mornings 8-9:30), process outgoing orders (Thursday mornings 8-9:30), assist with selling after weekend masses Time required – Anywhere from an hour or two to more if on a consistent recurring basis – Hours are at school – Younger siblings welcome

21 Field Day Work with Physical Education (PE) teacher to coordinate activities for grades K-7 for Field Days held in spring Duties – Assist coordinator and PE teacher with planning – Assist on Field Day by helping with activity stations Time required – Anywhere from an hour or two on Field Day to more if helping with planning – Younger siblings welcome Other – Field Days are held in late May/early June

22 Homeroom Parent A team of parents who work with their child(ren)'s teacher to assist in planning classroom celebrations throughout the year Duties – Distribute information to parents from the teacher and homeroom coordinator, typically via email – Collect and coordinate contributions (money and donations) for teacher gifts and classroom parties – Coordinate volunteers for classroom parties (but are not expected to attend every party themselves) – Plan for teacher gifts at Christmas, for Teacher Appreciation Day, and at end of the year Time Required – Most of communications can be handled from home. Parties generally occur around holidays. – Younger siblings are generally welcomed for parties in classrooms.

23 Library Assist the librarian both during and outside of classes to keep the library organized and running smoothly Duties – During classes: check books in and out, re-shelve and straighten books on shelves, help children find books – During non-class times: assist with cataloging and inventory, design and hang bulletin boards, decorate the library as needed, update the magazine display, put new books into service – From home: repair damaged books, cover new books Time required – 45 minutes if assisting during class – Hours available at home or school – Younger siblings welcome Other – The library’s big event is the Book Fair, held during Catholic Schools Week (usually the 1st week of February). 24 Lunchroom Assist students with opening up items in their lunches, cleaning up spills and trash, and collecting trays from school lunches Time Required – We need the most help from 10:30-11:30, full shift ends at 1:00 – Volunteer on a regular schedule (weekly/monthly) or only 1-2 times per year – Come on your lunch break or day off – Younger siblings are welcomed and have a blast, plus learn the routine before it's their turn to attend SHG! Other – A great opportunity to see your child during their school day and meet their friends (and see how much of their lunch they eat)!

25 Race for Education An important fundraising event for our school Duties – Preparing forms and mailing labels for distribution to teachers and students – Helping younger students fill out sponsor request forms, preparing mailing, and tracking donations – Coordinating with teachers to monitor progress of homeroom participation, selecting a video to be played and delivering popcorn on Race Day for those homerooms meeting set goals – Completing and delivering student coupons for label submissions – Event day: Setting up field, tents, tables, water and music. Race Monitors will punch cards for lap counts and provide water to children Time required – Preparation: 2 – 3 hours per day for 8 weeks leading up to the event – Event day: The event runs for the full school day and volunteers can help for any part of the day they are able. It is preferable if volunteers can stay for a full session. – Younger siblings are welcome
