4 But... ● Both just fought the most costly war in human history ● Both wanted to avoid war – Nuclear weapons, war torn ● BUT neither side wanted to back down ● US wanted everyone to be Democratic/Capitalism ● Soviet Union wanted everyone to be communist

12 Secretary-General ● Secretary-General: chief executive officer of UN ● Ban Ki Moon: Secretary General today

13 Economics and Social Council ● Promotes human rights and tries to make everyone's life better

14 Secretariat ● Carries out day to day issues ● Assists the other agencies

15 UN Agencies ● World Health Organization (WHO) ● United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF)
