Presentation on theme: "Bring DebConf home to your city!"— Presentation transcript:

1 Bring DebConf home to your city!
Jimmy Kaplowitz, July 28th, 2009 Based on Holger Levsen's work from DebConf8

2 Outline Why do we do DebConf? Location Checklist Timeline
deadline for proposals deadline for decision deadline for defining decision process Proposals

3 Why do we do DebConf? For many reasons ;-)

4 Why do we do DebConf? provide opportunity for DDs, interested people and existing teams within Debian to get together, discuss and hack on the Debian distribution and its infrastructure educate people with talks and workshops a chance to meet face to face, socialize, form stronger and more productive social bonds and brainstorm new ideas boost the motivations of individuals and work groups

5 Why do we do DebConf? somewhat lower priority:
boost the local Debian community to have some fun in RL to have more fun when hacking on the net No goals, but nice (but "not important") by- products: free food and accommodation in a nice place for DDs and contributors to give them something back to them for their continuous contributions.

6 Location Checklist Local team Choice of city / town / whatever
Conference Facilities Food Network connectivity Special DebConf rooms Accommodation Fun and Free time activities Local Sponsors

7 Timeline We'll start like we did for DebConf10:
We only decide on this timeline today Deadline for proposals: December 31st 2009 Deadline for decision: April 1st 2010 aim for decision by March 1st 2010 Decision by rough consensus if possible, or else by weighing a series of prioritized factors and coming to a group decision as was done for DebConf7, DebConf8, and DebConf10 Any changes should be agreed by the end of 2009

8 Proposals Today's proposals, as far as I know... Bosnia Germany
In accordance with NFL American football rules, the visiting bid team (to the EU), Bosnia, will call a coin toss Winner of the coin toss chooses which bid goes first Please keep the proposals to ~20 min including questions — we won't decide on them today anyway.

9 Have fun at the rest of DebConf9!
:-)
