MSH mission and vision Mission: Saving lives and improving health of the world’s poorest and most vulnerable people by closing the gap between knowledge and action in public health Vision: A world where everyone has the opportunity for a healthy life The Leadership, Management and Governance (LMG) Project contributes to the overall MSH mission and vision by improving leadership, management, and governance practices to strengthen health systems and improve health for all

Context The challenge: How to improve health indicators, such as ART retention rates for people living with HIV receiving treatment, despite obstacles (lack of organization, efficiency, governance, and motivation) The response: MSH is carrying out several USAID-funded activities, many of which include the Leadership Development Program Plus (LDP+) as an approach, under the global LMG Project:

Application of leadership, management, and governance practices by LDP+ improvement teams: Held regular working meetings Completed thorough situational analysis (internal and external) Applied “five whys” technique to identify obstacles and root causes Analyzed possible solutions using the sphere of influence tool Identified priority actions within sphere of influence Developed operational action plan and monitoring and evaluation plans Implemented activities and monitored progress of results Main Activities

Conclusion The LDP+ program training in leadership, management, and governance practices has allowed regional and health district teams to improve their health indicators (most notably their ARV retention rate) through the use of the challenge model The LDP+ has also been applied in health facilities and helped improve health indicators
