December 5 th & 8 th (SPAN 2) Bell ringer: Verb of the day: Probarse (o:ue) – to try on On the top of the index card, write today’s date. Then write today’s verb and draw a picture to help you remember the meaning of the verb. On the back side of the same index card, write the meaning of the verb in English. Write a sentence in Spanish saying….. “I tried on a dress in Forever 21, but I didn’t like it.”

Looking ahead… Next class we will start reviewing all that we have learned in Ch. 7 The Ch. 7 speaking test will be: “A day” classes on Thursday, December 11 th “B day” classes on Friday, December 12 th (After the speaking test we will do Ch. 6 test corrections & look at the Ch. 1-5 grammar review quiz that I didn’t count for a grade.) Your semester exam will cover everything that we learned this year in Chapters 6 & 7 (including culture), plus the grammar from Chapters 1 through 5. NOTE: You will see old vocab. from Ch. 1-5 being used in context. The format of the semester exam is multiple choice, matching, & True/False.

QUIZ TIME: Vocab. Quiz # 10: Positive & Negative Expressions Take out a sheet of paper and number from 1 to 10. Don’t forget to write your heading! Flip your paper over when you finish and then SIT QUIETLY! You can put your head down on your desk, draw a picture, or write me a note while you wait for your classmates to finish testing!

Homework check: Last class you were asked to complete TB pg. 241 inténtalo & TB pg. 242 Activity 1. Please place your work on your desk now, so that you can get a completion stamp. We will go over the correct answers together. You should be checking & correcting your answers!

Ch. 7 Goals “La rutina diaria” Learn vocabulary to talk about daily routines and personal hygiene Describe daily routines using reflexive verbs and adverbs of time (before, after, then, later, etc.) Use positive and negative expressions (always/ never, someone/ no one, etc.) Using the words pero & sino in context The conjugations of the verbs SER & IR in the past tense preterite Using verbs like gustar (fascinar, encantar, etc.)

The verbs SER & IR in the preterite tense: Review: What are the preterite tense endings for regular –ar, -er, & –ir verbs? The verbs Ser (to be) & Ir (to go) share the SAME conjugations in the preterite tense! You MUST memorize their past tense conjugations as they are irregular! You will also need to look at the context to determine which verb is being used.

*Remember: to use the verb Gustar, the thing that is liked is the subject of the sentence (NOT the person who likes the item)! Examples: Me gusta ese champú = (That shampoo is pleasing to me.) ¿Te gustaron las clases? = (Did you like the classes?) 2) To talk about what people like to do (actions), you will always use Gusta + verb (infinitive)! Examples: Me gusta leer. Me gusta cantar y bailar. It’s also helpful to read it backwards! Notice the conjugation of Gustar in the preterite past tense!

Just like with using the verb Gustar, these verbs will also use the 3 rd person singular & 3 rd person plural forms (ex: gusta, gustan) because the subject is the thing, NOT the person! To say what activities someone likes (does not like), use a verb in the infinitive form. Remember that the singular form is used even if there is more than one infinitive! Example: A ellos les encanta cantar y bailar en las fiestas. (They love to sing and dance at parties.) Use the following formulas TO EMPHASIZE who is pleased, bored, fascinated, etc… A mí (me), A ti (te), A él / A ella / A Usted (le), A nosotros/nosotras (nos), A ellos/ A ellas/ A Ustedes (les). *NOTE: You MUST use an indirect object pronoun to say who likes (doesn’t like) something!

Let’s look at the verb “Fascinar” (present tense) *The verb fascinar conjugates just like a regular –AR verb. Fascino Fascinas Fascina Fascinamos Fascinan Use with verbs & singular nouns Use only with plural nouns!

A mí me falta una página. = I’m missing one page. A nosotros nos quedan tres pesos. = We have 3 pesos left. Me quedan bien estos zapatos. = These shoes fit me well. Te queda muy bien esa camisa. = That shirt fits you well. NOTE: Mí has an accent mark to distinguish it from the possessive adjective my! (mi) EXAMPLES: *Remember the verb conjugation matches the object, NOT the subject pronoun!!!

Homework (la tarea): Do WB pg. 79 & 80 in your cuaderno de práctica. When it says to write the infinitive form, it just means to write down which verb you chose since SER & IR share the exact same conjugations in the past tense! DUE NEXT CLASS PERIOD!
