IMC 2016: Šegon et al – Croatian Meteor Network: ongoing work 2015-2016 1 Croatian Meteor Network Ongoing work 2015-2016 Damir Šegon Denis Vida, Korado Korlević, Željko Andreić

IMC 2016: Šegon et al – Croatian Meteor Network: ongoing work 2015-2016 2 Introduction CMN 2016 coverage Software and orbit catalogues updates International collaboration Enhanced low cost radiometer RaspberryPi capture/detect/process solution updates Going telescopic – why? Education Summary

IMC 2016: Šegon et al – Croatian Meteor Network: ongoing work 2015-2016 3 CMN Coverage @100km Number of active cameras: 22

IMC 2016: Šegon et al – Croatian Meteor Network: ongoing work 2015-2016 4 CMN Coverage @20km TBD improve coverage @20km in Southern Croatia

IMC 2016: Šegon et al – Croatian Meteor Network: ongoing work 2015-2016 5 Software and Orbit Catalogue Updates - Data processed through 2016. - Only 3 stations remain in unautomated processing mode - Catalogue for 2013 is complete - Catalogues for 2014 and 2015 will be completed this year - CMN_binViewer – Upgraded, various usefull options added - Still to be done: Automated daily / monthly reports, plots, stats...

IMC 2016: Šegon et al – Croatian Meteor Network: ongoing work 2015-2016 6 International Collaboration and Results - Last paper on the 2013 meteor shower search published in WGN 43:5 - Jeremie Vaubaillon (IMCCE): dynamical modeling of potential meteor shower association to parent bodies in CMN stream search paper done (to be submitted) - Last year’s Kappa Cepheids announced activity on September 21st observed only visualy by Juergen Rendtel (no video observation confirmations up to date); No announcements for 2016. - Long lasting Taurid fireball meteor train investigation in work

IMC 2016: Šegon et al – Croatian Meteor Network: ongoing work 2015-2016 7 Enhanced Low Cost Radiometer - Now using quad operational amplifier - Three photodiodes / three channels, fourth op-amp summing/amplifying - Better full sky coverage and improved S/N ratio - Integrated with an all-sky camera - Total sensor cost: 10€ - RaspberryPi solution is fully automated 2016-01-01 00:01:16 CET

IMC 2016: Šegon et al – Croatian Meteor Network: ongoing work 2015-2016 8 RaspberryPi - Video Meteor Processing Solution Update - New detection approach - End-to-end capture/detect/process solution - Opportunity for nework expansion and educational activities

IMC 2016: Šegon et al – Croatian Meteor Network: ongoing work 2015-2016 9 Going Telescopic – Why? - Precision orbits is the primary goal ! - High sample rate light curves - Precise deceleration data - More double station meteors compared to moderate FOV networks? - Better flux and ZHR estimation? - Additional data from stars observations CMN sensor configuration: - Kowa 55mm f/1.0 + ICX672 based camera  NTSC Exview HAD II - FOV 5.2°×3.9°  29”/pixel - Limiting magnitude better than 10 m on stars 1 pixel = 14m @100km

IMC 2016: Šegon et al – Croatian Meteor Network: ongoing work 2015-2016 10 Going Telescopic – Why? Actually the CMN design choice is: 8X Kowa 55mm f/1.0 + ICX672 cameras per station Effective FOV 15.6°×10.4°, 1920x1280 pixels, 30 fps

IMC 2016: Šegon et al – Croatian Meteor Network: ongoing work 2015-2016 11 Going Telescopic – Why? - More double station meteors compared to moderate FOV networks? Smaller ground separation distance required  Higher common volume of sky Smaller range difference to respective stations Fainter limiting magnitude  More sporadic capture 75km 100km 125km 30km 5km

IMC 2016: Šegon et al – Croatian Meteor Network: ongoing work 2015-2016 12 Going Telescopic – Simulation Based Expectations All meteors down to +5 m - Very sensitive on radiant distance - Less critical for slower meteors

IMC 2016: Šegon et al – Croatian Meteor Network: ongoing work 2015-2016 13 Education and Public Outreach - Low cost radiometer workshop - Meteor train investigation - Collaboration with high schools and universities - Basic and advanced data processing automatization - Public presentations on various meteor related topics - Visnjan School of Astronomy

IMC 2016: Šegon et al – Croatian Meteor Network: ongoing work 2015-2016 14 Acknowledgements All the CMN members for their devoted work and persistence Ministry of Science, Education and Sports of the Republic of Croatia Višnjan Science and Education Center, Croatia Astronomical Society "Istra" Pula, Croatia Thank you for your attention!
