Astronomy Genius Project

A new kind of project… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1rZ5Ga70bP8&list=PLh- d4Qi_GoVGJg4FEIhNQmjXWo5q7Tx5l&index=1

We won’t do once a week, or an hour a day, but rather every class for several weeks… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FEQzKH7v0- Q&index=2&list=PLh-d4Qi_GoVGJg4FEIhNQmjXWo5q7Tx5l

Summary: You get to choose any Astronomy topic that you’re interested in, and become a Genius in that topic! This is what we’ll be doing for the next several classes.

Group Race Each row of seats is a team (4 teams). Teams will be evened out if they are uneven. Each team takes one white board. Each team gets 3 min to see how many Astronomy topics they can generate from the textbook. Only one person per team is the white board writer; they must number each thing they write down (1, 2, 3, etc.). Teams should decide now who that will be. The rest of the team members should get a textbook turned to the Astronomy section (find it!) as quickly as possible and call out topics for the writer to record on the white board. Ensure all teams are assigned a board and have a pen… and GO! One MORE minute to brainstorm topics NOT in the text!! GO! Who won? Any answers that don’t seem eligible on any other teams’ boards?

Are you getting any Genius Project ideas?

R U L E S 1.Your project will be based on a QUESTION that is APPROVED by me. The question is YOUR CHOICE. 2.You will do RESEARCH to become an expert at answering your question. 3.You will SHARE your knowledge somehow (you choose how).

SHARING Call out ideas for some ways to SHARE your newfound knowledge… Did you know? The topic of Astronomy is in the Grade 3 curriculum as well! Ms.Tennant is attempting to work with Grade 3 South Park teachers to allow students an opportunity to share their Genius Project with grade 3s from South Park. CUTE!

Sample Projects https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=br7sliaqSYk&list=PLh- d4Qi_GoVGJg4FEIhNQmjXWo5q7Tx5l&index=3 Let’s look at a few projects to see what was done well and what needs improvement… Well? Pros & cons?? #1:
