WEEK 4, DISCUSSION 1: UDL GUIDELINES: EXAMPLES AND RESOURCES EDU 620 KRISTIN KUSCHE

PRINCIPLE II. PROVIDE MULTIPLE MEANS OF ACTION AND EXPRESSION (NCUDL, 2012) CHECKPOINT 5.1: USE MULTIPLE MEDIA FOR COMMUNICATION

RESOURCE: TOONDOO www.toondoo.com Allows you to design your own comic strip quickly and easily Appropriate for all ages Covers all content areas ‘ (ToonDoo, 2012)

TOONDOO Register for free to use the program to create your own comic strips. Many different layouts are available, as well as many options for clipart and text formatting to use in your comic strip. It is fun, fast, and easy to use! Students could easily use this to demonstrate knowledge in any subject, and the options make it easy enough for all grade levels. (ToonDoo, 2012 )

KEY CONSIDERATIONS How does this help learners meet the goal? Learners can use this activity to demonstrate their knowledge of the subject matter. How does this account for the variability of all learners? The many options this program provides allows each student the ability to create a comic strip. The comic strip can be as detailed or simple as the student would like to be, and it can be done using only clipart, without any text at all. Are there multiple ways for learners to communicate what they know? Learners can communicate what they know through mostly text, or could choose to use only the pictures. Each student will choose to create a different story to convey what they have learned. (NCUDL, 2012 )

USES ToonDoo could be used in any instructional setting as a way for students to share any main theme with each other. Students could make comic strips depicting historical events, or modern day scenarios. This is simply another means of presenting an idea. This is something I am not sure I would be able to use in the band room, but I see the value of this in many other subject areas.
