Definition What does “Hybrid Learning” mean for you? “Hybrid courses are a unique blend of traditional face-to-face classroom learning and robust online learning activities, structured to maximize the best features of both formats. A hybrid course is designed to integrate face-to-face and online activities so that there is a meaningful and organic connection between the online component and the face-to-face classroom experience. Well-designed Hybrid courses can: assist faculty in achieving course goals and objectives more effectively; assist a wider range of students to learn more effectively; and, can provide greater efficiencies for managing in-demand classroom space.” Richard J. Novak, January 2009

Designing the course – Hands on What steps should be included in your plan? What are some major needs to address in starting the course design. (come up with two items on the design checklist of your course). Let’s create a checklist!
10
A possible checklist: Set clear and manageable set of goals for the course. Select instructional methods for each class session. Design instructional strategies. Timeline. Connect the learning. Assess/evaluate performances.

Pitfalls and solutions in course design Avoid the “course and a half” syndrome. Do not minimize the online component. Integrate the f2f and online components. Keep the course plans and technology simple. Avoid student confusion.
