 In industrialized countries, such as Canada, more than 75% of the employed population sits for long periods of time  Sitting causes slouching!  Poor posture is one of the main factors that leads to lower back pain.  Proper posture in a chair Engineering Problem

Design Goal  Proper posture  Reduce work injuries  Reduce medical expenses  Promote healthy living

Problems We Faced  Separation between pipes  Stoppers  We had to ensure that the legs were stable and that no "wobble" effect was produced.  We solved this by limiting the extension of the telescopic pieces.  Our design needed to adjust to different sizes of treadmills so we decided to specify that U.P.A.L.S is designed to adjust to treadmills sold at Canadian Tire.

Recommendations  This product has a maximum load of 40 lbs.  This will not completely fix a person’s poor posture or back pain; it is a tool that may help improve posture while spending many hours in front of a computer screen.  Arms should be placed parallel with elbows kept straight.

If We Were To Move Forward  Design Improvements (type of materials, hinges as opposed to welded area to increase portability)  Different sized models  Accessories (coffee holder, side extensions)  Apply for patents  Choose a manufacturer  Market production
