2 Twelfth Policy Board Key Decisions Overview since PB12 Three new National Programmes (NP): -Argentina: fund allocation approval of US$ 3,842,370 -Cote D’Ivoire:fund allocation approval of US$ 3,210,000 -Mongolia: fund allocation approval of US$ 3,996,450 Agreed approach for establishing National Programme pipeline 2015 SNA Work Plan and Budget of US$ 24.4 million approved Roadmap for development of the UN-REDD Programme 2016 – 2020 Strategy approved Programme Evaluation Management Response

3 Inter-sessional decisions Overview since PB12 Decision 34 – Togo and Liberia accepted as partners Decision 35– No-cost extension of Paraguay's National Programme Decision 36 – Fiji accepted as partner

5 Highlights of Progress Overview since PB12 Regional & online consultations on Programme Strategy 2016-20 REDD+ Academy: 1 st REDD+ Academy session took place (28 Oct - 7 Nov) in Yogyakarta, Indonesia Country and Regional Needs Assessments REDD Assessment of Data, Analysis and Reporting (RADAR) Indigenous peoples and CSOs: selection of new representatives Inter-agency performance audit under way

6 Highlights of Progress Overview since PB12 National Programmes:  Colombia (PB10) implementation started  Bangladesh (PB11) and Mongolia (PB12) addressed PB comments on RPP  Ecuador final evaluation initiated Increased delivery of country specific support:  Since July 2014, 13 targeted support requests approved amounting to US$ 4.3 m  Total amount of targeted support requests approved 2012- Nov 2014 amounting to US$ 12.6 m (35 country requests and 1 regional)

7 Communications and Knowledge Management Overview since PB12 Rapid expansion of Communications and Knowledge tools, and development of new ones: New public Workspace developed Website now updated; more than 20,000 monthly users Dramatic increase in ability to share REDD+ knowledge and information through Programme’s social media channels: Facebook user up 60% to nearly 5,000 followers Twitter subscribers up 70% to nearly 8,000 followers

8 SG Climate Summit Overview since PB12 23 September: Forests Pavilion (am) & Formal Forests Plenary Session (pm) Major outcomes of Climate Summit: New York Declaration on Forests and announcements:  Supply chain commitments from major commodity traders  Forest countries commit to reduce deforestation & restore degraded lands  Major bilateral & multilateral programmes for REDD+ over the next 6 years  Indigenous peoples pledged to protect hundreds of millions of hectares of forest

9 Evaluation: follow up Overview since PB12 All of the evaluation recommendations are addressed through the 2016-2020 Strategy development process Drivers of Deforestation: -Increasingly addressed as a focus of National Programmes, feeding into national REDD+ strategies -East Africa Initiative on Illegal Timber Trade and REDD+ Land Tenure: Work underway on clarifying land tenure rights Gender: moving into implementation, e.g. promoting gender responsive REDD+ in provincial action plans, Viet Nam (with UN- REDD Programme & USAID LEAF Programme)

11 Overview since PB12 National REDD+ Strategies South-South Exchanges for LAC and Africa regions on country achievements and lessons learned on national strategies Support to engaging with Private Sector in three pilot countries: Indonesia, Ghana and Peru CBR+: 6 pilots (Cambodia, DRC, Nigeria, Panama, Paraguay, Sri Lanka) with National Steering Committees in place; draft CBR+ Country Plans in 5 countries for consultation and validation Panama: Broad consultation on 4 sets of studies to inform decision makers on REDD+ options for the country Sri Lanka: Approved targeted support includes support to women’s inclusion and supporting gender considerations in REDD+ policy

12 Overview since PB12 National Forest Monitoring Systems (NFMS) Sri Lanka: Initiated the process towards reaching forest definitions; continued training on Remote Sensing & GIS; land use map near to completion Zambia: Land cover map validation meeting conducted as a major milestone in the process Costa Rica: Approved TS request includes support to NFMS Pacific Islands regional capacity building & cooperation underway

13 Overview since PB12 Capacity Building: Over 100 experts trained on allometric equations for tree and forest biomass assessment; conduct of NFIs; data collection on GHG emissions Papua New Guinea: National Land use change analysis completed Zambia: Draft REL structure prepared Forest reference emission levels/ forest reference levels (FREL/FRL)

14 Overview since PB12 Safeguards Information Systems (SIS) PNG: Final working version of National Guidelines on FPIC Cambodia: Draft proposal for national approach to safeguards, including safeguards PLRs and SIS Nigeria: Multi-stakeholder platform established as the governance element of the SIS Approved targeted support for Peru and Mexico
