INTRODUCTION Report covers the period from April - June 2016 Key highlights during this period are as follows: o Provincial Office for CATHSSETA at King Williams Town now open and functioning o Completion of the revamping of the Nelson Mandela Museum in Mthatha - a tourist drawcard o Inclusion of Coastal and Marine Tourism under Operation Phakisa 2

POLICY, STRATEGY, GOVERNANCE, MONITORING AND EVALUATION Inventory for Coastal and Marine (CMT) Products, Activities and Services – finalising tender processes Review of the ECPTA Act – service provider commissioned and work has started already Participation in the review of the current Tourist Guide Regulations 3

TOURISM GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT (SUPPLY) PEOPLE DEVELOPMENT / TRANSFORMATION Participation in the Tourism Indaba by ECPTA, municipalities and the metros o Exposure to business development workshops, speed marketing sessions, networking sessions and introduction to trade Mentorship Program o ECPTA in collaboration with Tsogo Sun International are supporting SMME to participate in the Tsogo Sun Entrepreneurs Program o Guesthouse Management Course, with the University of Cape Town (UCT) o A comprehensive coaching program that is designed to improve customer care, quality, service and profitability Tourist Guide mentorship o Collaboration between ECPTA, Shamwari, Kariega and Karroo Connections o Camdeboo Local Municipality and Robert Sobukhwe Trust providing financial support 4

TOURISM GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT (SUPPLY) PEOPLE DEVELOPMENT /TRANSFORMATION Training Support o Training for Homestays in Makana and Port St. Johns Local Municipalities on Food Safety and marketing o Service Excellence Training at BCM and also Ngqushwa Municipality Training program on Sustaining Competitive and Responsible Enterprises (SCORE) for the East London Cluster has been conducted with 5 enterprises benefitting o Tourist guides from the Nelson Mandela Trail and Robert Sobukhwe Project received First Aid Tourist Guiding training Relevant Capacity Building o Participation in the Sector Skills Audit by NDT o Currently working with OTP for placement of learners for the learnership programs with the industry 5

TOURISM GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT NICHE PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT & RURAL DEVELOPMENT Nelson Mandela Precinct Development o Business plan in place, however, needs to be further re-inforcement o KSD secured R3 million for the pedestrianisation of Owen Street o Business Plan for the conference facility and accommodation at Nduli Nature Reserve completed – support from ECRDA and KSD. Currently working with ECDC to get the private operator o Mvezo Accommodation – Backpackers, self catering accommodation nearing completion awaiting furniture and landscaping currently under construction o Mvezo Great place, ECPTA, KSD and NDT are working together to secure a private operator who will manage and operate the accommodation facilities Mthatha Dam Recreational Facility o Received funding from DEA for phase III development consisting of 2 chalets almost complete, however, funding shortfall for 10 more chalets - for local funding from LRED and for energy efficiency 6

ENABLERS Tourism Awareness Creation The Tourism awareness sessions were held in the following areas: o Mdantsane targeting communities including Cecilia Makiwane Hospital Staff o Nelson Mandela Museum targeting crafters and tourist guides o Heritage awareness sessions at Nkantolo on preservation and management of heritage resources o Branding and marketing session targeting the Gariep LTO o Stakeholder workshop between Department of Transport, Nelson Mandela Metro and ECPTA to address complaints by Tourist Guides and Tour Operators o Information sessions with coastal municipalities on coastal and marine tourism Domestic Airlift : Report to be provided by DOT 7
