Be Safe Let us know if someone different is collecting your child. Please pick up and drop off your child on time. Do not allow your child run off down the drive. Come and talk to us if there is an issue.

Be Helpful Follow the golden rules Sign and comment on learning in the planner. Use tapestry to track your child’s progress. Come and help us with reading, laminating etc if possible.

Be Informed Read the newsletter Get in contact with parents and friends to help support the school Attend all parents evenings Visit the school website.

Be Happy Let us know if there is an issue. Come and tell us any ideas you have to make our school better. Fill in any questionnaires we do to help us make things better.

Be healthy We encourage all children to have a free meal. We have healthy snacks in school. Drink lots of water. Encourage your child to have a can do attitude.

We encourage healthy competition Children are invited to wear their colours at different ties of the year, so it is advisable to buy a t-shirt with their colour.

Golden rules We live by these rules. All children start on green and hopefully stay on green or go to gold. If not they move to amber (warning) and then red. If they get to red, they some and see the headteacher, miss playtime and these incidents will be shared with the parent either verbally or written in the planner.

Time off If your child is ill we ask that you inform us, by telephone, every day. Attendance is so important and we encourage your child to be in school everyday and on time.

Holidays We request that you do not take your child out of school during term time.. Guidance from the DFE are stating that from September 2013 Head Teachers cannot authorise absences for holidays

Handwriting In order for a child to reach age related expectation by the end of year 6, they need to have mastered a clear and joined writing style.

New curriculum and expectations for all schools These are the skills that every child at the end of Reception should master. MATHS Count to 20 and back. Count reliably at least 10 objects. Use ‘more’ and ‘less’ to compare two numbers. Estimate number of objects and check by counting. Recognise written numerals 1 to 9. Say one more/less (to 10). Add two small groups of objects (to 10). Use simple addition & subtraction to solve problems (inc. money) Begin to tell the time to the hour Formulate simple number sentences. Calculate how many are left from a larger number by counting back. Use everyday language to describe and compare size, weight, capacity, time, position and distance Know and talk about patterns and the properties

New curriculum and expectations for all schools READING Enjoy rhyming and rhythmic activities. Distinguish one sound from another - letters and sounds Show awareness of rhyme and alliteration. Recognise rhyme in spoken words. Read up to 100 familiar words. Can sound out CVC /CCVC/CVCC words without prompt. Able to predict what happens next in stories. Know difference between fiction and non-fiction books. Know to stop at a full stop. Weekly guided reading with every group.

New curriculum and expectations for all schools WRITING Form majority of letters correctly. Hold pencil correctly. High frequency words must be spelled correctly Other words spelled phonetically plausibly Begin to write simple sentences with awareness of capital letters and full stops Write own name. Write labels and captions.

Homework Reading 1. Reading daily- this could be a story book or their school book. We ask that your child records all reading in their planner. Please use the reading comprehension card to ask your child questions about the text. Planners need to be brought to school daily and signed by parents Friday. 2. Reading challenges - we ask that each child completes a reading challenge every half term (see the learning log).

Homework Spelling, punctuation and grammar 1. Spellings- we have provided the expectation spelling for the year groups in the learning log, we ask for parents to support their child in practising 10-15 spellings on a weekly basis. 2. Grammar, spelling and punctuation text book- teachers will give the child a page number to complete in relation to class teaching or the child’s needs. It is a book that should last all year and is not meant to be completed in one session, so please use the book wisely.

Homework Maths 1. Maths text book- teachers will give the child a page number to complete in relation to class teaching or the child’s needs. Please do not complete the book, the book should last the child a year. 2. Sumdog (Maths)- this is the online maths tool, it is advised that children access this weekly. 3. Mental arithmetic work i.e.. Quick questions like 10+30

Homework Topic 1. Learning log (topic) - a learning log should be completed at the end of each term, the theme will be based on a range of things that have been taught throughout the term. The teacher will give guidance on this.

Pre learning If you would like to see what we are doing in advance, we love this as you can support your child and give them a head start on what is going to be covered in the following weeks. All this information can be found on the website under the class page.

Planners and reading books– children will be given a planner and reading books weekly. It is important to read with your child everyday. We ask you to write any reading in planners. Reading flashcards- as well as a reading book, your child will get flash cards with words on them. This is to support reading and spelling. These need to be practised daily. The chart shows the progression in the reading book and where thy should aspire to be. Reading aids and guidance
