4 Problem Identification  Few venues for already FM-interested students to enhance and grow their interests.  Existing curriculum missing a FM approach to several common topics.  Lack of well-established FM resident-student relationship.

8 RTN Logistics & Methods Bimonthly event 4 weeks prior: resident recruitment, case development, advertising 5:30-7:30pm 1.5 hours – dinner & case discussion 1/2 hour – mentorship Close – surveys distributed and completed Post-event: survey data compilation & analysis for quality improvement as well as quantitative and thematic analysis; themes determined using a constant comparison methodology

13 Results: Quantitative Outcomes Student participation rate has increased by 36% over a year. Resident participation rate has increased by 200% over a year. Overall, 100% of students rate they were satisfied or very satisfied with the FM-RTN. Other disciplines, such as psychiatry and pediatrics, have started RTNs.

14 Next Steps Two of the residents will continue the program evaluation as part of their residency research course project. Plan to study the impact the program has on students’ decision to pursue family medicine.  Focus Groups  Further surveys

15 Research Question Mostly looked at University of Calgary students who were presumably interested in FM. Researcher’s presence at the RTNs may indirectly influence participant responses. Possibility of researcher bias in data analysis. Limitations of this Study
