10 Participation Options ♦ Pay fee and check out a Lenovo device –Benefits include: Access to district software Ability to print Maintenance and support ♦ Bring your own device –Can be any platform –Must have a keyboard –Cannot be a smartphone

11 District Device ♦ Lenovo Yoga ThinkPad 11e ♦ Convertible, Touch- screen ♦ Full functioning Windows-based Laptop ♦ Keyboard ♦ Windows 8.1 Operating System

12 Maintenance & Support Fee Of Lenovo Device $70.00 for the year ($35.00 if on free or reduced lunch) ♦ The device belongs to LISD and may be returned to the school in June, or may be checked out for the entire summer.

13 Legal Responsibilities Parents are legally responsible for the care of the device checked out to their student. Parents understand there are fees associated with lost and/or stolen devices as well intentional abuse or neglect of the device.

14 Not Covered by Support Fee ♦ Intentional mistreatment or vandalism ♦ Cosmetic damage ♦ Repair or maintenance of any items not provided with the device when it was originally handed out ♦ Replacement of any ancillary items such as power adapter, case, etc. ♦ Loss of any data contained on the device –Please note the data on these devices is not backed up; students must keep data in the designated network locations to ensure access if the device is lost, stolen, or damaged

15 Lost / Stolen Device ♦ Lost Device ▪1 st incident: Half of replacement cost ($281) ▪2 nd incident: Full replacement cost ($562) ▪Lost charger full replacement cost. ($44) ♦ Stolen Device ▪Parent MUST provide a police report ▪No charge for 1 st incident provided steps were taken to secure the device ▪Full replacement cost afterwards ($562)

16 Repair Procedures ♦ If a device is damaged, it should be brought to the VR Library (Ranger Tech) as soon as possible. ♦ The device will be assessed to determine further action. ♦ If the device is unusable, a loaner device will be given out until the device is repaired. ♦ If the device is damaged due to abuse or vandalism, the student/guardian will be responsible for cost of repairs. –All assessed repair costs must be completely paid to receive a replacement device.

17 Intentional Abuse or Neglect ♦ Abuse of the mLISD devices will not be tolerated. ♦ As with any Leander ISD equipment, abuse is subject to disciplinary action and the cost to repair the damaged item(s).

18 Campus Expectations ♦ We want 100% participation. ♦ Charge device at home every night. ♦ Devices must be taken to every class every day. –Teachers are expected to use technology every day. ♦ We encourage securing the device in non-traditional academic settings: Athletics, Band, Dance, ROTC etc. ♦ Store device in case when not in use. ♦ Do not loan your device to others (Collaboration is encouraged).

19 Internet Filtering ♦ Devices ARE provided content filtered Internet access while on the Leander ISD network. ♦ Internet filtering is NOT provided when the device is at home or on a non-school Wi-Fi hot spot. ♦ Contact your internet provider to get internet filtering established at the ROUTER level at home. – It is fine to monitor your child’s internet usage at home.

20 Device Distribution Timeline ♦ *Freshmen: –During Ranger Camp--August 10th & 11th ♦ *Sophomores: –August 12th--9:00 to 11:00 ♦ *Juniors: –August 12th--1:30 to 4:00 ♦ *Seniors (who have paid): –August 12th--1:30 to 4:00 *Make-up day, August 19th--9:00 to 12:00

22 Digital Security Identity Theft - when a thief steals someone’s private information in order to pretend to be that person Secure - safe and protected Vulnerable - in a position that makes it easier for you to be harmed or attacked.

23 Digital Footprint Digital Footprint - permanent information about you on the Internet Tag - to add a descriptive word, label, or phrase to a photo or video Identity - all of the factors that make up who you are Digital Citizenship - navigating the digital world safely, responsibly, and ethically.

24 Cyberbullying Cyberbullying - using technology tools such as the Internet and cell phones to deliberately upset someone else Harassing - bombarding someone with messages over digital media, or repeated contact when it is least expected Derogatory - intentionally hurtful and harmful, designed to insult or degrade
