What is dyslexia? Dys – Abnormal / Impaired Lexia – words or speech

Has difficulty with nursery rhymes; Cannot easily remember verbal instructions; Is unusually slow to write and to copy; Has trouble distinguishing left from right; Is easily distracted; Has a short attention span; Often demonstrates restless behavior; Becomes embarrassed if asked to read in public; Easily forgets a sequence of steps, for example, tying shoelaces; Often reverses the order of words or letters when speaking; Has problems with general organizations; Is slow to learn arithmetic tables

Advantages Dyslexic people are highly creative, intuitive, and excel at three-dimensional problem solving and hands-on learning. Our visual and holistic learning style means that we learn best through the creative process, with methods that focus on mastery of the meanings of words and symbols. The true gift of dyslexia is the gift of mastery. When we use learning methods that fit our thinking style, we can excel in academics and read and write efficiently.
