Our silent partner NAV The Norwegian Labour and Welfare Service (NAV) plays a broad participatory role in the world of work and society, and contributes to the financial security of the individual. This depends on close interaction with the user, working life and local authorities, and a sharper focus on people with special needs in relation to the labour market and others in a challenging life situation. The current labour market situation in Norway The registered unemployment rate for Norway has increased the last months due to the developments in the Norwegian and international economic situation. Demand for labour Due to the economic situation the labour demand will be somewhat lower than first expected. A recent survey of employers has shown that the demand for labour both within Norway and from other countries still is expected to continue to rise slightly in 2013-2014. The demand for unskilled workers in Norway is not expected to rise in the coming year, but some sectors are expected to experience a continuing demand for highly skilled workers: Health and care professions Education sector Engineers in more fields (especially petroleum and maritim sector) Highly skilled IT personnel (most employers will recuire high level of skills in the norwegian language) Highly skilled construction workers Cooks and bakers Skilled industrial workers (pipefitters, welders, CNC operators, miners) Gro Bråten 29.09.2013
