2 General Information Regarding Technology Usage in Alexander County All students should have a signed consent Acceptable Use form on file before accessing the systems network All students must be trained yearly in internet safety Teachers must review technology related Board of Education policies yearly Parents must be notified and given the option to “opt out” –middle/high school and “opt in” for elementary school from use of system administered gmail accounts. Read the entire BOE policies. Alexander County g-mail or school-endorsed professional social media sites should never be used for any form of personal financial gain—personal endorsement or advertisement of private business

3 Technology Responsible Use 3225/4312/7320 Applies regardless of whether use occurs on or off school system property, and it applies to all school system technological resources, including but not limited to computer networks and connections, the resources, tools and learning environments made available by or on the networks, and all devices that connect to the networks. Parents will be notified in writing of any third party systems being utilized. (definition of third party systems) No right to privacy exists in the use of technological resources. Applies to all school employees and school volunteers School volunteers should be made aware of the policy.

4 Internet Safety 3226/4205 To the extent possible, internet filters will be utilized to block or filter access to inappropriate information To the extent practical, steps will be taken to promote the safety and security of users of the school system’s online computer network. It is the responsibility of all school personnel to educate, supervise and monitor usage of the online computer network an access to the internet. Yearly age-appropriate training shall be conducted for students who use the school system’s internet services Accountability measures must be in place to assure this training occurred.

5 Technology In The Educational Program 3220 Technology resources must support Common Core and/or Essential Standards or other programs of the system. System will have a technology plan Bring your Own Technology will be investigated Teachers may utilize email, social networking sites, blogs, wikis, and other forms for direct electronic communication with permission from the superintendent or his designee Parents will be informed in writing of any internet sites or communication tools being utilized by the teacher. Technology-related professional development will be conducted for teachers on ethical, legal an practical issues related to social networking and mobile devises in the classroom in addition to other needs deemed necessary.

6 Employee Use of Social Media 7335 School employees are prohibited from accessing social networking websites for personal use during the instructional time or with school system technological resources Employees shall not accept current students as “friends” or “followers” or otherwise connect with students on personal social media sites unless the employee and student have a family relationship or other type of appropriate relationship which originated outside of the school setting Employees are to maintain professional relationships with students at all times. Employees are responsible for content on their social media sites including content added by others and should make use of available security settings to restrict students from viewing personal information and prevent students from accessing materials that are not age-appropriate. Employees should follow the “Top Ten Common Sense Rules for the Appropriate Use of Social Media
