Steps Taken- To Date Bicycle Reservation System Bicycle Coordinator Line Monitors Ambassador Program Taxi company outreach On-going meetings with ferry companies and rental companies to problem solve

The Issues Up to 2200 bicycles are loaded onto ferries each day during the peak season. Limited space makes it difficult for parking and staging these bikes at our current location(s). We’ve run out of room !

Issues - Continued Breakdowns in the reservation system – long lines When the racks are full or the reservation booth is unoccupied, cyclists will mingle in the intersection considering what to do. SAFETY RISK

High Potential For Vehicle-Versus- Bicycle/Pedestrian Collisions

Looking Forward During our last meeting, Staff asked the ferry companies and Jeff Sears (Blazing Saddles) to propose bicycle parking options. Staff believes that these companies have a responsibility to assist the City with planning and the costs associated with expanding the current bicycle parking

Measure to Address Safety Issues Pilot Traffic Safety Solutions

Closure of Tracy Way - Peak Rental Season Closure of Tracy Way - Peak Rental Season. Positives- Vastly expands bike parking. Helps limit risk of vehicle versus pedestrian/bike collisions. Removes bike parking from staging area. Negatives- El Portal -2-way street. Potential loss parking revenue. Limits time frame for commercial vehicle delivery

Positives Controlled environment Prevents bike/pedestrian vs vehicle collisions Negatives Limits time frame for commercial vehicle deliveries Limits vehicle access to the businesses Personnel needed to remove and re-install the barriers on a daily basis.

Close parking lane of Tracy and construct temporary bike parking zone Positives Least impact to vehicle traffic. Improves rider safety. Negatives Cost for barricades. Potential loss of parking revenue.

Utilize SMALL CAR parking spaces in Muni Lot 1 Positives Uses under-utilized parking spaces in Lot #1 Removes bike racks from staging area Negatives Some loss of parking revenue Location is some distance away from the ferry landing

Positives Removes bike racks from staging area Increases bike parking Negatives Some loss of parking revenue Need to create new spaces for vehicles with disable person placards/plates Utilize portion of Tracy-fronting parking spaces in Lot 1
