Bicycle Tourism Ridership Numbers Combined bicycle ridership for both the Blue and Gold and Golden Gate Ferry companies. 2009: 840,000 2010: 867,000 Ridership increase of about 3% per year Staff and bicycle rental companies believe that we will continue to see a three to five percent increase in bicycle tourism each year.

The Issues Up to 2200 bicycles are loaded onto ferries each day during the peak season. Limited space makes it difficult for parking and staging these bikes at our current location(s). We’ve run out of room !

Issues - Continued Breakdowns in the reservation system – long lines When the racks are full or the reservation booth is unoccupied, cyclists will mingle in the intersection considering what to do. SAFETY RISK

Looking Forward During our last meeting, Staff asked the ferry companies and Jeff Sears (Blazing Saddles) to propose bicycle parking options. Staff believes that these companies have a responsibility to assist the City with planning and the costs associated with expanding the current bicycle parking

Removes bike parking from staging area. Negatives- El Portal -2-way street. Potential loss parking revenue. Limits time frame for commercial vehicle delivery
