He was canonized on August 20th, 1083 by Pope Gregory VII. The new bread is blessed on this day too. PUBLIC HOLIDAYS IN HUNGARY

15 MARCH NATIONAL DAY The Hungarian Revolution of 1848 was one of the many European Revolutions of 1848 and closely linked to other revolutions of 1848 in the Habsburg areas. The revolution in the Kingdom of Hungary grew into a war for independence from the Austrian Empire, ruled by the Habsburg monarchy. Memorial Day of the 1848 Revolution (which aimed the independence of the Hungarian Kingdom from the Austrian Empire). There are usually speeches and music pieces performed; many people wear a cockade with the national colours (red, white and green). PUBLIC HOLIDAYS IN HUNGARY

Cockade reflects the Hungarian flag, and is always referred to as such. A cockade is a knot of ribbons, or other circular- or oval-shaped symbol of distinctive colours which is usually worn on a hat. Nowadays wearing a cockade nationwide is characteristic only of Hungary. The Hungarians pin the cockade of our national colours above our hearts every year on the 15th of March, in remembrance of the Hungarian Revolution of 1848-49. PUBLIC HOLIDAYS IN HUNGARY

EASTER SUNDAY AND MONDAY/moveable/It has got religious origin./ Easter is the holiday that celebrates and commemorates the central event of the Christian faith: the resurrection of Jesus Christ three days after his death by crucifixion. Some people go to church but on Monday men, boys visit women, girls to sprinkle them with perfume (or in the countryside, sometimes water), first asking permission by reciting a verse. In return, the women give the men eggs (sometimes painted, sometimes chocolate). Children receive chocolate eggs (sometimes fruits and nuts, chocolate rabbits), from the Easter Bunny; these gifts are sometimes hidden in the garden or house. (Real rabbits are sometimes gifted.) The day's meal is often ham, eggs, and sweetbreads for dinner.

Christmas in Hungary/it has religious origin like Easter/ In the Christian religion, Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ by the virgin Mary. The Christmas and gift-giving season starts relatively early compared to other cultures, with the Santa-like figure, or Hungarian version of Saint Nicholas, Mikulás (or Szent Miklós) traditionally visiting the homes of Hungarian children on the night of 5 December. Mikulás often comes with an assistant: a "Krampusz", a Devil, who punishes bad children. Before 24 December, people decorate their houses and start to cook and bake. At Christmas, the family members come together and celebrate. On 24 December, people decorate the tree with ornaments and put the wrapped presents under it. On Christmas Eve, which is the day before Christmas Day, young children are waiting for the arrival of Jesus and especially for the presents. Gift-giving is done after the meal.
