Analysis of the Teaching Material ( 一 ) Status and Function 1. To learn some new words around the festival Thanksgiving by reading. 2. To learn and master the grammar the Infinitives by reading and writing. Based on these, we will make it possible for Ss to talk about their life experience and share their happiness in their favourite festival.

Learning Aims and Demands 1. Knowledge Objectives 1. Ss will acquire the following vocabulary : thanksgiving, turkey, pumpkin pie, parade, native, hunt for, wild. 2. Ss will learn how to learn and master the Infinitive: Native American help them to build houses. They show them how to hunt for wild turkey. The people want to thank the Native Americans.

Teaching Procedure Step 1: Warming up / Lead in Step 2: Pre-reading Step 3: Skimming Step 4. Intensive reading (careful reading) Step 5: Scanning Step 6: Sum up Step 7: Retell the story. Step 8: Homework.

Step 1 Warming up / Lead in --- Play a Christmas song. Ask : What festival is it about? Is it a Chinese festival ? What other foreign festivals do you know? (Purpose: To fully stimulate the Ss’ initiative, improve the teaching efficiency and get ready for next step.)

Step 2 Pre-reading ---Show a picture and ask : What are they doing in the picture? Introduce: Parade ---What festival is it about ? Introduce: Thanksgiving ---How much do you know about it? (Hints: When / what to eat …? ) Introduce: turkey, pumpkin pie (pictures) (Purpose: To stimulate Ss’ the motivation of reading and their existing linguistic knowledge.)

Step 3: Skimming Match the headings with each paragraph. Para. 1 When is it ? Para.2. What to eat? Para.3. Have a get-together Para.4. Gig parades (Purpose: To train the Ss to glance through the passage and get a general idea of each paragraph. )
