2 VALUE The lightness or darkness of a color

3 TINT Made by adding white to a color so that it is lighter. + = HUE WHITE TINT

4 SHADE Made by adding black to a color so that it is darker. + = HUE BLACK SHADE

5 INTENSITY Intensity is the brightness or dullness of a color. Low Value is dark and High Value is light. For example, blue can be very dark or very light. Low Value High Value

7 Monochromatic Colors Great artists have successfully used monochrome paintings in their work. Pablo Picasso, during what has been termed his “Blue Period”, produced many paintings done in shades of blue. Picasso’s paintings of this period focused on themes of loneliness and despair.
