Position Position refers to the location of an object at one instant. It is always specified relative to a reference point (or origin). The net change in position relative to the origin is the displacement.

Position-Time Graphs Position is always on the y-axis (vertical). Time is always on the x-axis (horizontal).

What is happening during this graph? The person is in the positive direction of the reference point. Position is not changing as time passes. The person is staying in one place. A

What is happening during this graph? The person is in the negative direction of the reference point. Position is not changing as time passes. The person is staying in one place. B

What is happening during this graph? The person starts at the reference point. Person moves further from reference point in positive direction. The movement is constant. C
