Word Processing It is easy to type a story using your computer. Select the writing program on your computer. It could be Microsoft Word, AppleWorks, or Simple Text to name a few. Go to File. Use your mouse to right click and open new document. While you are typing, you should “Save As” your document about every ten minutes. When saving your document, use your name along with a word or a phrase to help you remember the document. Example: tleonard_story
9
Saving Your Document! Let’s say you are writing a story about a thunderstorm. After you have been typing for about ten minutes, go to “file” at the top of the screen and left click the mouse to get the command “save as”. Click on this and it will ask you to type in the name of the document. Type one solid word with no spaces. For example: stevenkingthunderstorm. When it asks you if you want to save, click on “yes” to save your document. For example: stevenkingthunderstorm. When it asks you if you want to save, click on “yes” to save your document. After ten more minutes of typing, click on “save” underneath file and this will help you save your changes as you keep on typing.

Editing and Printing After you are finished with your typing, you may use “spell check” to see what you might want to change. This is found underneath “Tools”. Look at the changes it suggests and decide if you will accept those changes or not. It is okay to ask the teacher to help you with this! A couple times of practice and you’re good to go!

Surfing the Internet! Cool, does that mean I’m going on some waves with a board? No, remember water and computers don’t mix.
