What are Fraternity Day of Service Signature Events?

Space Requirements Space for a 53-foot tractor trailer to park and unload – Loading dock. – Manual pallet – Forklift and forklift operator – Ability to move pallets of books to sorting location Space to sort the contents of 13 cartons – Minimum of 2,000 sq. ft. of working space Ability to store books securely for duration of event – (typically 3-4 days) Space for activity stations Parking for volunteers and groups picking up books Permission for volunteers and groups to access the space Operational space (electricity, working restroom) A warehouse is ideal!

Supplies and Funding Pi Phi Responsibility: Pi Beta Phi Fraternity purchases the 20,000 books for each Signature Event with a grant from the Pi Beta Phi Foundation. The Fraternity pays for the co-chair training and travel for international volunteers and staff who travel to the Signature Events. Each Signature Event location will be reimbursed up to $1000 of spending on supplies for the events. Step-and-repeat banner, pull-up banner, stickers, tote bags, balloons, social media signs and silicon bracelets. Local Responsibility: Dollies or carts Tables and table coverings Trash bags Boxes Pallet jacks and/or forklift Any supplies for children’s activities Helium tank and ribbons for balloons Food for volunteers Anything else you think you might need to make your event run smoothly!

How does the club fit in? In order to put on a successful event, the local club should buy into and be supportive of the Signature Event. It is recommended that the club president not be one of the co-chairs and that those who hold regional leadership positions not serve in key committee roles. Promote, promote, promote!

What makes a strong application? We are looking for as complete an application as possible. This means: – Having viable options for your venues – Filling most, if not all, your committee positions – Clear commitment from local clubs or chapters or other organizations to provide volunteers – Compelling statistics and narrative about why this event would make an impact in your community
