What makes a successful program? Location Duration Long enough to feel immersed – this is not a vacation Jet lag Airfare prices to your location Itinerary # of excursions vs. organized tours vs. free time Do not live out of a suitcase Plan an activity for the first afternoon/evening if you land in the morning Organized activities should be heavy in the beginning of the program and become less over time
7
What makes a successful program? Course We are not an academic unit Reaches a wide audience Cross-listed and/or Split-level Ex. Engineering Economy & Technical Writing Ex. Archaeology in Israel Does not compete with other programs Look for a course already on the books In-state Tuition Term Do not overlap multiple summer terms Know requirements for your intended audience Ex. Agriculture in China (May vs. July) Familiarity How well do you know your destination?
