© 2013. All rights reserved Themes – Colorado College Faculty and staff report strong connections to the mission of Colorado College as well as a sense of pride in being part of the Colorado College community. Similarly, faculty and staff appreciate the commitment to a liberal arts education, the talented and unique student body and the quality of their colleagues. On the whole, employees report high degrees of job fit and appreciate the flexibility and autonomy they have. While there is a strong sense of community within many departments, the strength of that camaraderie does not consistently translate to strong cross-functional collaboration or a sense of alignment across the College. Faculty and Staff report having good relationships with their supervisors but also report a need for greater consistency and enhanced managerial/leadership skills, specifically those regarding performance management and accountability. There is acknowledgement of the focus on Diversity but a belief there is still important work to be done.

© 2013. All rights reserved Themes – Colorado College Many faculty and staff do not understand the compensation system or believe that the system adequately compensates faculty and staff given their workloads and market comparisons. For some, this contributes to a feeling of being unappreciated. Faculty and staff express a need for improved communications. There is a desire for more transparency regarding the rationale with which decisions are made and an interest in greater participation in those decisions which directly impact their work. For many there is a sense of optimism with the new administration, but there are varying degrees of confidence in the capabilities and credibility of Senior Leadership as a whole. While employees understand the impact of the challenging economic environment, there is some frustration with available resources, staffing and workloads. There are concerns regarding accountability, especially as related to the inability to deal with low performers, disrespectful behaviors and the perception of favoritism. Staff express a desire for additional training, professional development and career opportunities.

© 2013. All rights reserved Overarching Themes – Finance & Administration Similar to entire college themes –Strong connection to college mission and liberal arts education –Strong sense of pride – college affiliation –Appreciate talented and unique student body; quality of their colleagues –Strong sense of community/departments; need for cross-functional collaboration and alignment. –Good relationships with supervisors; greater consistency/enhanced managerial/leadership skills More positive than entire college themes –Professional Development; Compensation, Benefits & Work/Life Balance; Facilities; and Respect and Appreciation.
10
© 2013. All rights reserved Overarching Themes – Finance & Administration The Shared Governance dimension results were notably lower than those across the College. More so than many of their colleagues in other divisions, staff within Finance & Administration report good support for their ability to manage and maintain work/life balance and heightened appreciation for diversity efforts. Conversely, within Finance & Administration concerns regarding staffing levels, performance management and cross-functional collaboration are more acute.
