What is it? One of the big problems teaching assistants of programming courses have is communicating with their students on the internet. There have been features such as the MSN Messenger’s Whiteboard, but they have proven to be unstable and inefficient in serving as a robust communication tool between the two groups. In this project, we explored and designed user interface prototypes that would seem intuitive and easy-to-understand in exchanging ideas for the users. We have focused on teaching assistants and students of an introductory programming course.

Process User Study Design Iterations (based on new ideas + user data)

User Study Demographic: Undergraduate students with various levels of programming knowledge 12 participants Observing users while Exchanging Ideas in Person Exchanging Ideas Online through MSN Messenger

Iteration 1

Iteration 2

Iteration 3

Plans Last semester was focused on the UI design. In the future, it would be ideal to run more user studies for another round of refinement before implementation.

Thank you.
