The Amendments We currently have 27 amendments. In order to pass an amendments they have to go though a certain process. First a bill has to get passed through both houses of the legislature (with a two-thirds majority in each). Once the bill has passed both houses is goes to the states. The constitution is referred as a “living document” because it is open to constant change. Also the Constitution can be changed to meet the demands of the present and future.

3 rd amendment The 3 rd amendment protects us from soldiers taking over our homes. I think this would be the least important in my future life because I don’t think there will be any more wars in the U.S especially in Virginia. This amendment will not only protect my house but it will protect me because I like having my times with just my family and no one else.

26 th amendment The 26 th amendment gives 18 year old the right to vote. I like this amendment because in my future it will give me the power to vote and I’m still at a young age. This amendment was passed because of the drafting law back then. They thought if 18 year olds can fight for their country they should have the right to vote

24 th amendment The 24 th amendment bands poll taxes. When I am able to vote I don’t want to pay for something they want me to do. Plus the poll taxes are like a little hole in your wallet and your slowly losing your own money.

19 th amendment The 19 th amendment gives women the right to vote. I think this is a big affect in my life especially when I am able to vote. When they made this amendment it not only gave women the right to vote but it also opened doors for candidates to get more voters. Therefore we get more votes and point of views.

14 th amendment Describes civil rights of each citizen. I personally like this on because I believe in civil right for EACH citizen. In history class I remember learning that back then people didn’t have certain rights and some people had all the rights. To me I think that’s a big no no. I think its really unfair and it kind of shows discrimination.

10 th amendment The 10 th amendment gives powers to the states. This being a big country with 50 states we really need this amendment. I feel a little secure with this amendment because I know that the president has a lot of responsibilities and sometimes he cant make it to the states. Therefore we have the power to have government in our states because of the 10 th amendment.
