4 Training Objectives Understand the BGCA Money Matters program and create an implementation plan. Determine effective planning and recruiting strategies for member participation. Locate outside resources to support your Money Matters program. Demonstrate effective facilitation skills. Apply Boys & Girls Club’s Youth Development Strategy.

5 According to a recent survey conducted by the Charles Schwab Foundation : One in five American teenagers doesn’t know that if you take out a loan, you must pay it back with interest One in four thinks that financial aid will pay for all college expenses One in three thinks that monthly Social Security payments will be all they need to retire

Understanding My Money Participants will be able to Identify personal short, medium and long-term goals Understand how taxes and other deduction affect take home pay Compare advantages and disadvantages of payment methods Use a checkbook, check register and bank statement Unit 2. Spending Wisely and Using Credit Participants will be able to Analyze personal spending habits Evaluate information about products and services Develop a realistic budget Explain factors that affect creditworthiness and the purpose of credit records

Saving and Investing Participants will be able to Identify personal saving habits Compare banking features Explain the relationship between saving and investing Evaluate investment opportunities Define philanthropy and its significance Unit 4. Paying for College Participants will be able to Analyze how career choice, education, skills and economic conditions affect income. Compare financial aid opportunities Create a realistic college budget
