What is the CAHSEE? A statewide exam All Students must pass this test to earn a high school diploma 2 sections: English Language Arts and Mathematics No time limit. Average time: 4-5 hours each test English day one, Math day two Students must pass both sections!

English Language-Arts (ELA) Consists of word analysis, reading comprehension, responding to literature, writing strategies, and writing conventions 79 Multiple Choice Questions 1 Essay task

Mathematics Consists of Algebra, Statistics, Geometry, and Math Reasoning Students must also demonstrate skills in computation and arithmetic foundations, including working with decimals, fractions, and percentages 92 Multiple Choice Questions

When do Students Take the CAHSEE? The first attempt is in 10 th grade This year: March 17 & 18 There are additional testing opportunities in 11 th and 12 grades, but… Too many Seniors are still stressed out about this test. Better yet, study the first time We want all students to pass at the first opportunity in 10 th grade

CAHSEE Scoring Scores range from 275-450 A passing score of 350 is required in order to pass. This score is acceptable for graduation. A score of 380 is required to meet proficiency. This is the goal for Valley High School students.

When Are Results Available? School districts receive the results approximately 8 weeks after the test is taken Counselors will inform students of results Score reports are sent home

How Can I Prepare? In class practice… Your teachers know what to focus on. ELA practice on Study Island… You can practice on Study Island at home! After school and Saturday tutoring Sessions available everyday… See tutoring calendar, attend, win prizes! You are invited to Saturday sessions starting this Saturday from 9-12!

Last Minute Tips Talk to your English and Math teachers about other resources to help Make sure you rest well and eat breakfast on test days Be serious about the test Plan to spend all day working... Don’t rush! It’s better to pass the first time than to repeat later
