11 11 Overview of the Helpline Founded in 2004 as a Domestic Abuse Helpline with Sexual Violence being added to its portfolio in 2011. Changed its name from the All Wales Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence Helpline to the Live Fear Free Helpline on 1 st October 2015. Administered by Welsh Women’s Aid but wholly funded by the Welsh Government.

12 12 Services offered at the Helpline Free, confidential, 24 hour service offering contact by telephone or email. Fully bilingual ( Welsh & English) but with the capacity to use Language Line if needed. Gender responsive service offering support to women, children & men experiencing domestic abuse and/or sexual violence and any form of violence against women and girls. The Helpline offers Signposting, Support, Safety and Sanctuary.

13 13 Helpline Data During 2015/16 28,183 calls and email enquiries were handled by the Helpline. Of these calls 96% were made by female victims of domestic abuse and/or sexual violence and 4% by male victims. The above figures were similar to the data for 2014/5 where the victims were 95% female and 5% male.

14 Support offered to male victims Although there are fewer male callers to the Helpline each one is treated with respect, dignity and in a non-judgemental manner. The Helpline workers will follow the DYN model for risk assessing callers. The Helpline has an updated list of all provision available in Wales ( and the border counties of England) with regard to refuge and outreach support to male victims. This is in the form of Womens Aid Groups, Social Housing, Men’s Advice Line, DYN etc.

18 18 Independent Domestic Violence Advisor An IDVA works independently to address the safety of victims who are at risk of harm from domestic violence and can help by Identifying sources of help and safety Explain the options available Support you to get the help you need Be a point of contact when a number of agencies are involved Be a key contact if you are involved with the Criminal Justice System
