Habit 6-Synergize ● What does this mean??? ● Synergy is achieved when two or more people work together to create a better solution than either could alone. It’s not your way or my way but a better way, a higher way.
3
Diversity... Typically, we think of race and gender More to it, such as: Physical features, dress, language, wealth, family, religious beliefs, lifestyle, education, interests, skills, age, style…….
4
Diversity... Three approaches to diversity: Level 1: Shun diversity Level 2: Tolerate diversity Level 3: Celebrate diversity
5
Shun it... Afraid of differences Convinced their way is the best, right, or only way Ridicule those who are different
6
Tolerate it... You believe everyone has the right to be different Don’t shun/celebrate See differences as hurdles, not potential strengths “You keep to yourself and I’ll keep to myself. You do your thing, I’ll do mine. Don’t bother me, I won’t bother you.”
7
Celebrate it... Value differences See differences as an advantage, not a weakness. Two people who think differently can achieve more than two who think alike
8
Roadblocks to Celebrating Differences Ignorance-You don’t know what other people believe, feel, or what they’ve been through.
9
Cliques-Only a problem if they reject everyone who isn’t like them Roadblocks to Celebrating Differences
10
Prejudice: Stereotyping, labeling, pre-judging people. –We ’ re created equally, unfortunately, we ’ re not always treated equally –We aren ’ t born with prejudices. Prejudices are learned Roadblocks to Celebrating Differences

Teamwork and Synergy PRACTICING TEAMWORK: Great teams are usually made up of five or more different types of people, with each member playing a different but important role.
12
Teamwork and Synergy EXAMPLE: 1.Think about all of the positions on a sports team—you won’t play well if each member doesn’t know their position/what to do/where to stand.
13
Teamwork and Synergy Plodders: They stick to a job until it’s done. Followers: They are very supportive of their leaders. Innovators: They are creative, idea people. Harmonizers: They provide unity and support and encourage cooperation. Show-offs: Fun to work with, but can be tough at times. They add spice and momentum needed to bring the team overall success.
