3 Introduction to the Club Deerness Valley Football Club was established in 2003 and it's main aim is to encourage participation in football for young people as a social activity and means of encouraging a healthy lifestyle, providing opportunities for recreation and competition. The Club achieved FA Chartered Standard Development Club status in 2006 It currently has a membership of approximately 200 young people playing in 20 teams, and since introducing female teams in 2013, 34 girls have joined the Club. The young people are aged 7 to 15 and mainly come from villages in the Mid Durham area including Ushaw Moor and Langley Park, along with other parts of Durham including Framwellgate Moor and Newton Hall. The Club offers weekly training sessions throughout the year on grass and astro turf, and the chance to play in competitive leagues, progressing from 5-a-side football for the younger members to larger squads.

7 Parent/Guardian Responsibility (1) Ensure child attends training and matches. Inform manager at earliest opportunity if child not attending training or matches (teams have to give 2 weeks written notice of a cancellation of fixture or points are awarded to opposing team). Try to liaise with other parents/guardians to share transport to matches (car parking is usually problematic on all venues and some charge). Ensure child has a drink (preferably water) for training and matches.

8 Parent/Guardian Responsibility (2) Ensure child wears suitable clothing (including warm clothing in winter as there is usually a gap between matches). Ensure team strip is worn for matches and kept in good condition. Ensure child behaves in an appropriate manner at all times. Ensure standing order set up to pay subscriptions. Behave appropriately on matchdays (support and encourage but do not coach from sidelines as this can confuse the players).
