CLB/DAQ meeting, Paris APC, 05 September 2012 1 DAQ in infrastructure and DU foot P. Lamare (CPPM)
2
CLB/DAQ meeting, Paris APC, 05 September 2012 2 Capo Passero Infrastructures layout Toulon ‘’Ring-like’’ geometry up to 6 nodes AC distribution up to nodes 36 user ports per node ‘’Star-like’’ geometry (PJB-SJB) DC distribution 8 user ports per SJB
3
CLB/DAQ meeting, Paris APC, 05 September 2012 3 Main functions of infrastructure: o Power distribution to DUs, Calibration Units and Sea Sciences o provides optical network for the data transmission of DUs, CUs and SS o Hold some instrumentation Infrastructure control/command independent from DUs detector control and data taking o Dedicated fibres o Dedicated software Some instrumentation and optical network components of the detector located in the infrastructure but controlled by detector control (to confirmed) Implementation of infrastructure could be slightly different for a Low Energy (LE) detector compared to High Energy (HE) detector Generalities
4
CLB/DAQ meeting, Paris APC, 05 September 2012 4 Optical network scheme of the detector Scheme for Capo Passero For Toulon globally the same, except PJB removed and more DUs per node (SJB)
5
CLB/DAQ meeting, Paris APC, 05 September 2012 5 Control at the DU foot Do we need a CLB at the DU foot? Power: Perhaps o Power on/off DU: switch at the SJB (node) output o AC/DC converter in Toulon? Control needed? Data transmission: No o No optical components in the DU foot (in the OFM at the middle of the line) Instrumentation: o HE detector: Yes? In Toulon Some instrumentation could be located on DU foot for Toulon (or in Calibration Unit if in the field?) as no SJB distributed in the detector field as in Capo Passero o LE detector No No instrumentation on the DU foot (expected to be on CU) CLB at the DU foot perhaps needed in Toulon
6
CLB/DAQ meeting, Paris APC, 05 September 2012 6 DU tests What is available? Electrical shore station to communicate with 1 DOM (present CLB design) Optical test bench for 1 DOM What has to be developed? Optical shore station Electrical shore station for multiple DOMs PC with run control Software o Test set-up o Data analysis
7
CLB/DAQ meeting, Paris APC, 05 September 2012 7 DAQ in PJB, SJB and nodes Why DAQ/CLB needed in JB/nodes? To control and monitor optical network for DU data transmission o Optical switch for timing calibration o Optical amplifier EDFA (?) To control and monitor instrumentation o Hydrophone for acoustic positioning o Laser beacon o Current meter (?) One CLB with OLT in each JB or node needed at least for acoustic and laser beacon (one dedicated wavelength for each). Same CLB than in DOM preferably.
8
CLB/DAQ meeting, Paris APC, 05 September 2012 8 JB/nodes tests What is available? Electrical shore station to communicate with 1 CLB (present CLB design) What has to be developed? o Optical shore station (all wavelengths needed but not at the same time) o Optical calibration system o PC with software (Run Control?) to communicate with CLB
9
CLB/DAQ meeting, Paris APC, 05 September 2012 9 Summary CLB necessary in infrastructure but controlled by detector control (RC) CLB in JB/nodes to be defined, is it the same as in DOM? CLB in DU foot to be decided Tools to be developed for testing (also needed for data taking) CLB for JB/nodes and equipment needed before DU as infrastructure deployed early
