. Halloween was originally a Pagan Holyday called "All Hallows Eve." It was one of four, and the most powerful, holydays throughout the year when spirits could walk the earth and communicate with the living.

November 1st is All Saints Day. Halloween (or Hallowed Evening / Holy Eve) is October 31st.

It was believed that until midnight on the eve of All Saint's Day, evil spirits would roam around frightening and wreaking havoc on villagers and such.

Then, at midnight, they would be driven back to whatever dark places they had come from because All Saint's Day would have begun..

Some Other names for Halloween are: Samhain, The Feast of the Dead, All Hallows Eve, Day of the Dead, All Hallow tide, Devils Day.

So people dressed up as scary creatures with the idea that if the real ones saw them they would be fooled and leave them be.

So if you looked like one of them you would be relatively safe from their antics.

The telling of ghost stories and viewing of horror films are common fixtures of Halloween parties.

A lantern made from a hollowed pumpkin with a carved face, usually displayed on Halloween.

. The Irish legend tells us about a man named Jack. He managed to trick the Devil twice was damned.

Jack had to wander the Earth, lighting his way with a piece of coal that is protected from rain by ordinary pumpkin. Jack lantern still roams the Earth in anticipation of the Last Judgement and he is the symbol of damned soul.
