1. Social Studies: National History Day Two dozen Merrimack students competed at the National History Day (NHD) state event this spring at Plymouth State University. Twelve students went on to earn spots at the national competition this June in Washington, D.C.

2. Social Studies: The International Economic Summit In January, Merrimack students competed at the International Economic Summit, held at Gillette Stadium. The event allows students to test and apply their knowledge of economic policy and global trade against students from all over the country. It is the first time Merrimack High School has participated in the event.

3. Social Studies: On The Road Merrimack students met and heard former Supreme Court Justices Sandra Day O’Connor & David Souter speak in Concord last fall Civics & American Government classes took a trip to the new Edward M. Kennedy Institute (Boston MA) for a day of interactive role playing on immigration and an overview of how the United States Senate works. A group of Merrimack students had the opportunity to visit Italy with adults and teachers during April Vacation.

4. Social Studies: New Course Offerings The Social Studies Department added or revamped six courses for next year: AP Microeconomics AP Macroeconomics AP American Government & Politics World Studies Sociology Contemporary Issues Next year, Social Studies & the English Department will offer three new interdisciplinary courses: The American Experience Foundations in World Culture: World Civilizations & Literature Culture Shock: Social Science & Literature
