What IS Ergonomic Hardware? Ergonomics: the study of how workers interact with their work environments. Proper ergonomics means designing objects in the workplace such as keyboards and chairs, to provide safety and comfort for the worker. Hardware: the mechanical, magnetic, electrical, and electrical components making up a computer system. + = The creation of computer hardware that is designed with intentions on keeping the user of the computer system safe, comfortable and injury-free.

Ergonomic Hardware In Your Everyday Life We all use the computer on a regular basis don’t we? You may not know it, and it may not be evident, but you may be permanently damaging your selves by using un-ergonomic hardware for your computer. Un-Ergonomic Ergonomic Just by simply changing your, un-ergonomic keyboard (left), to an ergonomically correct keyboard (right), you could possibly be saving your self from permanent damage and a lifetime of pain and failure.

How To Create An Ergonomically Correct Workstation Monitor Guidelines - Have at least 25” inches between the monitor and your eyes. - Have the viewing area of the monitor between 15 degrees and 50 degrees between horizontal eye level - Top of the monitor should be slightly father from the eyes from the bottom of the monitor. - Ceiling suspended lighting. Use blinds and/or shades to control outside light. - Dark letters on a light background. Keyboard and Mouse Guidelines - Try to find a keyboard and/or mouse that fits the natural curves of your hand. - Make sure the hardware is comfortable when you’re using it to prevent irritation.
6
Effects of Un-Ergonomic Hardware Carpal Tunnel Syndrome: a painful disorder caused by compression of a nerve in the carpal tunnel; characterized by discomfort and weakness in the hands and fingers and by sensations of tingling, burning or numbness. IT HURTS
7
Advantages + Disadvantages Advantages - Helps prevent a lifetime of damage to yourself. - Usually, ergonomic hardware is visually appealing to the eye. Disadvantages - Sometimes, ergonomically correct hardware can be a bit pricey.

Tips - When typing from a document, it is best to have it on a stand as close as possible to the screen. You can also obtain an arm to attach to the computer that holds the document at eye level so you only have to move your eyes to read from it. - Make sure the lighting and monitor position is such that there is no glare on the screen when facing it directly. - Try to move as frequently as possible to avoid staying in one place. Get up to shred a document or get a paper off the printer. - An old phone book makes a good footrest if you cannot purchase a ready- made one. You can adjust it by tearing out or adding pages. - It is a good idea to stop typing, or stretch and walk about every 30 minutes. - If you forget, set an alarm on your computer, watch, phone or other instrument to remind you.

- Ergonomically correct monitors are easily the most expensive part of a correct set-up. Prices range from 150$ - $700. But an average, decent, ergonomically correct monitor will run for around $350. - Ergonomically correct mice can range from $25-$80. But decent, ergonomically correct mice will run, generally for around $50. - Ergonomically correct keyboards can range from $50-$150. Decent, correct keyboards can go for $120
10
Add It Up Monitor: Average Price = $350 + Keyboard: Average Price = $120 + Mouse: Average Price = $50 = $520 So, in conclusion, it is (on average) around 520$ to create an ergonomically correct workstation with correct hardware. But, if you think of it. You are paying 520$ for hardware, but would be paying thousands in the hospital paying for surgery on your wrist. IT ALL ADDS UP
